World's Largest Bottle of Whisky set World Record By The Famous Grouse

Most records involving whisky revolve around either the age of a specific malt or the price it has fetched at auction. But this latest bit of news takes on a larger dimension. In Scotland last week The Famous Grouse set a new world record by filling the largest bottle of whisky in the world.

Holding 200 liters (or 9,120 drams) of the premium blended scotch, the bottle - handcrafted specifically for the purpose by Bomma in the Czech Republic - stands an imposing five feet, five inches tall and will be on permanent display at The Famous Grouse Experience. The visitors center - which celebrates its tenth year - is located at the Glenturret Distillery, which also claims the crowns of both Scotland's oldest distillery and its most visited.

The record was certified (appropriately enough) by the Guinness Book of World Records, and supplants the previous record held by a 184-liter bottle of Jack Daniel's. After helping their hosts fill the bottle over the course of three hours,  guests at the event were also treated to a show of traditional Highland feats of strength by strongman Gregor Edmunds.

Fightstar’s Charlie Simpson set world record for coldest gig ever

Fightstar’s Charlie Simpson set world record for coldest gig ever

Fightstar frontman and former Busted singer Charlie Simpson has announced that he will be attempting to enter the Guinness Book Of World Records later this year when he tries to play the world’s coldest gig.

In November, the singer will fly to the Russian town of Oymyakon in Siberia, which has a population of 472 and has no running water or electricity. He will then attempt to play a show in the town in temperatures of around -40 degrees.

The town is in fact so cold that mobile phones cannot function and boiling water can be turned to ice in under five seconds when exposed to the air. If Simpson manages to play the gig, he has been assured that he will enter the Guinness Book Of World Records.

Speaking about the gig, the singer-songwriter said: “The gig is by far one of the biggest challenges of my career, but I’m really excited to get out there and see a part of our planet that very few people will ever get to visit. It’s not really an option to play my guitar wearing gloves, so I just hope my fingers don’t freeze”.

Charlie Simpson released his debut solo album ‘Young Pilgrim’ last summer. The singer has also recently completed work on the score for the British comedy film Everyone’s Going To Die, which is due for release later this year.

Speaking about this, he told NME: “I’ve just scored my first feature film, which debuts next month. It’s a British dark comedy. That’s just been finished. I did all that myself. It’s all instrumental, bit of orchestral and a bit of electronic.

Shortest film actor - 70 cms southern film actor Ajayan set Guinness World Record

Shortest film actor - 70 cms southern film actor Ajayan set Guinness World Record

Thiruvananthapuram, What if he is just 70 cms tall? Southern film actor Ajayan, who made it to the Guinness World Records in 2008, now aims at another Guinness record by becoming the shortest director of a full-length commercial film.

Ajayan, popularly known as Guinness Pakru, says he always wanted to to direct a film and it has now become a reality.

"My film has been titled as 'Kuttiyum Kolum' and it would go on the floors starting October. We expect to do the post production in November, and it would hit the theatres in the end of December," Ajayan told reporters here Friday.

In 2008, Ajayan featured in the film "Albudhadweep", directed by Vinayan. It had a cast of 360 dwarfs, and helped Ajayan earn a Guinness record for being the shortest hero doing an adult role in a commercial film.

His directorial project "Kuttiyum Kolum" is set around a popular old game of the same name. The game was played in rural Kerala and it is played as a team using a stick (Kolu), which is around two feet long and another small stick, which is around 12 cms long.

The game started to lose popularity after incidents of damage to the players' eyes became common.

"The film revolves around the friendship of two friends and the film opens with a game of 'Kuttiyum Kolum'. In the film my character's name is Kutti and we are scouting for an actor to play the role of Kolu," added Ajayan.

The film is being produced by United Films-Pavithran Group headed by Anzar, and would be shot in and around Kollencode in Palakkad district. The entire cast of the film will be announced Sep 5.

Ajayan has completed his silver jubilee in the film industry and acted in 60 films, include those in Tamil and Kannada.

Most witches in one place - Witch World Record

Most witches in one place - Witch world record

More than 1000 witches are expected to turn out to try and break an official world record for the most witches in one place.

It's all part of the 400th anniversary of the Pendle Witch Trials which began on August 18th.

Organisers are also hoping to raise in excess of £50,000 for Pendleside Hospice.

The walkers will set off at 11:15 and head for the summit of Pendle Hill, which for generations have been symbolic of witchcraft as well as being a site of reverence for Pagans and Quakers.

Simon Tattersall, one of the organisers of the event, said: “It’s great news that Pendle Witch Walk has been recognised by Guinness World Records as a World Record attempt.

“We’re hoping for a great event and a truly memorable day. The world record attempt for the greatest gathering of “witches” will give everybody’s efforts an undisputable measure of achievement. It will bring huge attention to the Burnley and Pendle area and our tumultuous history, but more to the point we hope that via their sponsors, walkers will raise in excess of £50,000 for Pendleside Hospice.”

Largest ever keyboard ensemble in the world - 136 keyboards play in unison

Largest ever keyboard ensemble in the world  - 136 keyboards play in unison

The youngest is only six and the oldest, 17 , but these children have already won worldwide recognition.

They are on a team of 136 young keyboard artistes of the School of Music, Thrissur which recently won a place both in Guinness World Records and the Limca Book of Records for a performance by the largest ever keyboard ensemble in the world.

The event, held at the Trichur Tennis Trust on November 20, 2011, was conceptualised by the School’s managing director, Raju K.K.

The idea for the world record attempt came about during discussions with parents and students about ways to increase participation in musical events.

“At first, the attempt at the record was a joke but then we decided to go about it seriously,” explains Mr Raju, who spent over six months teaching his students a medley of songs from around the world to attempt it.

The pieces of music played on the occasion included the 2010 football World Cup theme song ‘Waka waka’ and evergreen numbers from the Bollywood hit ‘Sholay.’

As Limca required the band to play before its panel of judges as well as the public, the challenge was even greater “We were more concerned about getting an opportunity to share our music with people from around the world, than even beating the earlier record of 107 keyboards held by an American team,” Mr Raju adds.

Vertical skydiving world record - Skydivers break World Record in USA

Vertical skydiving world record - Skydivers break World Record in USA

Falling at speeds of up to 354 kph, a group of nearly 140 skydivers shattered the vertical skydiving world record as they flew heads-down in a massive snowflake formation in northern Illinois.

Three judges representing the Federation Aeronautique Internationale, the international air sports agency, certified that 138 skydivers created the formation Friday evening over Ottawa, about 129 kilometres southwest of Chicago. It took 15 attempts over three days for the team to break the previous record of 108 skydivers, which was set in 2009.

"I feel amazing," Rook Nelson, an organizer and the owner of Skydive Chicago where the record was broken, said shortly after he made the jump. "There was a lot of emotion and a lot of days where we should have got it. But we dug down deep and stuck at it."

Following months of planning, tryouts and camps to decide who could take part in the dangerous challenge, the record breakers squeezed into six aircraft and launched themselves into the air at 5,639 metres. Flying at such a high altitude presents a risk of altitude sickness, so the skydivers and pilots used oxygen tanks aboard the planes.

Four camera operators shooting video and stills jumped with the 138 participants to record their achievement for the FAI judges. Those images are key, said co-organizer Mike Swanson, a professional skydiver who base jumped from Willis Tower and its fellow Chicago skyscraper Trump Tower for the movie "Transformers 3."

If no one records the 46-metre-wide formation showing all the jumpers in their pre-assigned slots, "then it wasn't really done," Swanson said.

The challenge for the record began Wednesday, midway through a 10-day skydiving festival. After each attempt, the organizers reviewed the videos and decided who should stay and who should be swapped out for one of the dozens of hopefuls who didn't make the initial cut.

"It's a hard job coming in from the bench," said Erica Tadokoro, from Brisbane, Australia. "You have to be positive because it's a team effort."

Tadokoro, 43, was one of just 13 women selected in the first string. She was cut after the 14th unsuccessful attempt — one shy of the record jump.

Nelson explained that vertical flying is "basically doing a headstand" in the air. The lack of wind resistance speeds the skydivers' fall rate to an average of 273 to 290 kph. Ahead of the record attempt, he said some of those involved would need to reach much higher speeds. And that increased the risks.

If they're not paying attention when diving into the formation at upwards of 354 kph, "it's going to be like someone running a red light and you taking them out," Nelson said.

Each skydiver knew exactly when to exit the aircraft, whom to follow and where in the formation they should be. At 2,134 metres, the skydivers began to peel away on a last-in, first-out basis, and each wave deployed their parachutes at altitudes specified according to their positions in the formation.

World's Largest shaving cream pie fight sets Guinness World Record

World's Largest shaving cream pie fight sets Guinness World Record

Some 714 participants entered the Ringling Bros. and Barnum Bailey Pie Fight Battlezone on AT&T Plaza in front of the American Airlines Center.

Pie-throwers had to endure sweltering temperatures as they attempted to set a new record, while dressed in colourful clown costumes.

Guinness World Records adjudicator, Sara Wilcox, commented that these feats were 'all about ordinary people doing extraordinary things and everyone here tonight had an excellent time and I'm very happy to verify this record'.

Nicole Feld, producer of Ringling Bros.Circus and Barnum & Bailey Clown Alley, said: 'We couldn't think of a better way than with a Guinness World Records attempt to kick off International Clown Week.

Participants used the attempt to raise money for a number of charitable organsiations, including Funnyatrics, Children's Medical Center and The Lewisville Fire and Safety Clowns.

While the shaving foam pie fight category was new, officials put a minimum target of 684 participants on the attempt.

This was based on the old record for the largest custard pie fight, which was achieved at the Olmsted Student Center Parking lot in Des Moines, Iowa in 2011.

London Olympics 2012 - Cycling World records at Olympic Velodrome

London Olympics 2012 - Cycling World records at Olympic Velodrome

It didn`t take long for the Olympic cyclists to learn that the London Velodrome track is one of the fastest in the world.

On the opening day of the six-day track competition yesterday, riders set six world records in two different events on the super fast track made of Siberian pine wood.

Chinese and British women improved the team`s sprint world record three times in the space of an hour on Thursday, before Britain broke its own men`s team pursuit world record with a time of 3 minutes, 52.499 seconds during the qualification round.

The British team of Geraint Thomas, Ed Clancy, Steven Burke and Peter Kennaugh lowered the mark of 3:53.295 that they set at the world championships in Melbourne, Australia, earlier this year.

The reigning Olympic champions were cheered on by a capacity crowd of 6,000 fans at the Velodrome that included cyclist Mark Cavendish, Prince William and his wife, Kate.

"We wanted to qualify with the fastest time," Thomas said. "We can still tidy up our race. We knew we could do 3:52. We can go faster."

Britain then broke its own men`s team sprint world record with a time of 42.747 seconds to reach the final against France.

Philip Hindes, Jason Kenny and Chris Hoy lowered the mark of 42.914 that Germany had set on Dec. 1, 2011, at a World Cup meet in Cali, Colombia.
