Guinness Rishi - Most Number of Tattoos on Body set World Record in Nepal

An Indian businessman was carrying flags of 305 countries on its own body to promote friendship among nations. Now, 70 years Hvis Prakash, who reinvented himself as Guinness Rishi is competing in Nepal for his world record later in the hope of adding more flags and more records. "People call me a joker, a fool," said world record aspirants from Delhi, who arrived in Kathmandu to attend the international conference first tattoo and immediately stole the show with other young participants from different countries with more exotic tattoos.

"I do not mind."

An auto parts manufacturer by profession, has two passions Guinness Rishi - tattoos and Guinness World Records.

The 22 cards include such feats unique as do most will in the world - a huge 489 pages deliver a pizza to New Delhi to San Francisco and, of course, with the largest number of tattoos on his body.

These include 305 flags of different countries, 185 maps, 165 flags mini and 2985 characters.

"My dream is to go around the world several times," Har Prakash told IANS, sitting in the conference room of the hotel Yak and Yeti when the cameras click furiously. "I want the children of these countries ask me, where is the flag of our country there and then, in the process, know their country and other countries."

As he speaks, comes Carlos Peres, a tourist from Venezuela, to find him. Peres then Rishi photo in the newspapers and his friend from Argentina, so that both could hunt for the flag of their country on the chest of the Indian.

"It's there," Argentina cries of joy and shake hands with Rishi, inviting them to visit your country.

For such a serious tattoo record, the Guinness Rishi began relatively late: it was in 2009, when he saw someone sporting a tattoo of the flag, and admired the effect.

It pays tribute to Lokesh Verma, one of the founders of 27 years of Tattooz Devilz a seven tattoos imprinted on his forehead: Business India, United States, Britain, Cyprus, Canada, the Congress Party and the Ripley's Believe It Or Not logo.

It took nine months and Verma is free because he understood the patriotic cause behind it, "said Rishi.

However, his family has reacted in a totally different way.

"My wife and children have told me that they never go to market myself or my family weddings," she says, unrepentant. "But my clients have loved tattoos - because they had a chance to laugh at me."

Yash Patel - Most number of cartwheels in a minute enters Limca Book of Records

Yash Patel - Most number of cartwheels in a minute enters Limca Book of Records

If you ask 9-year-old Yash Patel to point out Brazil on a map of the world, the chances are that he will fumble. But on March 15, this wonder kid from Gujarat's capital broke the Guinness record for the most number of cartwheels in a minute, a record held till then by a Brazilian. And, on Saturday, Yash received a certificate with a medal from Guinness World Records for his extraordinary feat.

Yash's record-breaking act took place at a reality show in Mumbai on March 15 this year. With 63 complete cartwheels in 60 seconds, he broke the record of 55 cartwheels in a minute held by the Brazilian.

The nine-year-old comes from a humble background. His father is a commando deployed with Chief Minister Narendra Modi's security. "I am extremely thrilled that my son has achieved this remarkable feat at such a young age," an elated Bach Patel told DNA.

While Yash's father is bound by duty to stay in Gandhinagar, his native village in Kos, Surat, is planning a grand celebration. "We will take out a grand procession, complete with fireworks and a special band, once his father returns. Sweets will be distributed to every household," said his uncle, Suresh Patel on phone from Surat.

Yash's family was the first to notice his extraordinary skill. "While young kids either walk slowly or even crawl, Yash would cartwheel from one room to another. He used to do it all day and that's when his parents realised that their kid had a special talent," said Kuleen Patel who is now looking after Yash's progress in gymnastics.

Too innocent to understand the hullabaloo around him, Yash, who studies in Standard IV at Kadi Prathmik School, Gandhinagar, wants to show his medal and certificate to his friends when the school reopens. "I love doing cartwheels and I want to learn other tricks of gymnastics. I will show the medal to my teachers and friends when I go back to Gandhinagar," he said shyly.

Yash had also received praise from the chief minister after he completed 445 cartwheels in 15 minutes and entered the Limca Book of Records. Now with the Guinness World Record in his kitty, his aim is to win medals for the country at gymnastics events."For the past one year, he has been training at SAI centre in Gandhinagar. We hope to find a sponsor for him so that he can train professionally and get awards for his talent."

Siddaraju Siddappa - Husking nine coconuts in three minutes set Guinness World Record

Siddaraju Siddappa - Husking nine coconuts in three minutes set Guinness World Record

It all started when he was just 14 and took it upon himself the challenge of husking coconuts with his teeth while playing with other kids. Today, Siddaraju Siddappa holds the Guinness World Record of husking nine coconuts in three minutes. Siddaraju, just back from Italy, can’t stop gushing about the recent title added to his name. He said his six-day stay in Italy for the record ceremony was a wonderful experience for him, something that he will cherish forever. “It felt good to see the Indian fl ag there after I broke the record,” he reminisced.

His last record was the fastest time to husk a coconut using the teeth in 28.06 seconds. He husked a coconut measuring 78 cm in circumference and weighing 4.744 kg at the Ravindra Kalashetra on March 30, 2003. His name has also been recorded in the Limca Book of Records for husking 15 coconuts in five minutes in the year 2002.

According to Siddaraju, strong teeth and strength are the only two things needed to break such records.

Teeth, he said, are genetic and for strength, he works out at the gym every day for at least an hour.

“That’s just to build stamina.

There is no particular exercise regimen I follow.

As they say, practice makes a man perfect,” he said.

Siddaraju, who also works as a government employee, added, “I’m proud to be an Indian and it’s my way of offering a salute to this country. If I wanted money, I could have joined the entertainment industry.

I’m happy with my government job and of course — the coconuts.” His next record will be to husk 12 coconuts in three minutes, which he hopes to break in 2012.

Most people dyeing Easter eggs at Carowinds sets Guinness World Record

Most people dyeing Easter eggs at Carowinds sets Guinness World Record

It was not the record for the world's biggest beer belly - although a few guys at Carowinds might have been close to stardom with that girth Saturday - but a world record was set in York County about 3:30 p.m. Saturday afternoon.

In unison, with a real Guinness guy there with a real British accent to make it all official and elite, 317 people wearing sunburns and tank tops used 317 plastic spoons to dip 317 eggs into 317 plastic cups of red, yellow, green and blue dye for three minutes.

The old record, 250 people dyeing Easter eggs at the same time in the same place, fell fast. In three minutes, the record belonged to people who just signed up Saturday and became stars. People from as far away as Ohio and Florida, and as close as across the street from the roller coasters on Pleasant Road.

Claire Bussman from Fort Mill's Pleasant Road, where her dad runs Carolina Stars gymnastics, had no comment as one of the 317 new world record holders. Claire had a good reason to shun the media and not make any public statement - she is just 9 months old. Her brother, Alex, age 6, took more pictures than the Royal Wedding couple getting hitched in a few days. He talked to anybody who asked and anybody who didn't. He held out his dyed egg, red, like it was gold.

"World record," said Alex, who will certainly be the only world record holder in his kindergarten class at Fort Mill's Sugar Creek Elementary School when he returns Monday from spring break.

Guinness has tens of thousands of records, and now a new one from right here in what was dubbed the Easter egg-stravaganza by Carowinds. But somebody needs to tell the Guinness people who said the record happened in Charlotte - Carowinds is partly in South Carolina, and partly in North Carolina. But to get in, you have to be in South Carolina. And the record was set on the South Carolina side, too.

The good sport from Guinness - the company is the beer people who also have the record book - was named Stuart Claxton. He called himself "official ejudicator." Perhaps British "ejudicators" must be named Stuart and wear a blazer with a patch on it and talk like a butler seating a duchess for cucumber sandwiches - so Stuart told the crowd before the three-minute dyeing process that they were among the most "officially amazing" people on earth.

"I feel amazing," said 9-year-old Keaton Williams of Concord, N.C.

Then all 317 dunked their eggs - just plain, hard-boiled chicken eggs. You would think for a world record the Guinness people might use dinosaur eggs, or at least ostrich, but chicken eggs they were. Maybe they were on sale in Charlotte, which wanted to claim the world record.

All dunked, as about half of the crowd was kids and about half were adults trying to be kids, and all waited. The three-minute dyeing for the record seemed to last forever. Finally, the record was theirs.

Calissa and Troy Watson, ages 6 and 4 from Mount Airy, N.C. - "Mayberry" said Calissa - became world record holders and instantly famous. Troy responded by saying, at age 4, he officially now did not like girls.

Chiddy Bang Try to Break Guinness World Record for Longest Freestyle Rap

Chiddy Bang Will Try to Break Guinness World Record for Longest Freestyle Rap

As many of you know, MTV's very first digital awards show, the OMAs, are April 28th. This is exciting for a ton of reasons (including the fact that the show will be held in Vegas, and I'll be there covering!) but the coolest part is Chiddy Bang's participation.

Chidera Anamege of the hip-hop group Chiddy Bang will attempt to score the Guinness World Records title for “Longest Freestyle Rap” as part of the awards kick-off. Best of all? He will be taking your topics and words from Twitter to use throughout his freestyle--all you have to do is tweet using the hashtag #RapWorldRecord! Send your words in, and watch as he flows (or at least attempts to) for nine hours straight. Insane, right?!

This got me thinking what other crazy awards Guinness has given out, so I headed over to their website and OMG. Take a look at some of the stuff people have actually won the award for:

    * Longest distance keeping a table lifted with the teeth
    * Fastest time to drink a 500 ml milkshake through a straw
    * Smallest Piece of Ice
    * Largest Condom
    * Fastest time to travel the entire New York City Subway

I wonder what I'd even qualify (or have a desire to compete) for...Most fashionable fat girl? Most tabs open ever in one browser window? Messiest desk? I'll keep thinking about that.

In the mean time, I can't wait for next week. I hope Chiddy makes it---I can't imagine freestyling for nine minutes, let alone nine hours. He has to rap while he pees!!! What if he gets hungry?! I totally have faith in him, though. When he stopped by MTV a few months back, he blew us away. You can watch it all go down next Thursday on OMusicAwards.com!

To show my support and stand in solidarity with Chiddy, I'm going to rap! I mean, not for nine hours, but a few minutes. Tweet me words you want to see me use in the rap, and I'll upload a video later this week :)

World's biggest kebab creates Latchingdon firm,

A Business is celebrating creating the largest doner kebab in history, but it still won’t enter the record books.

The meaty monstrosity, which was produced by a team of 42 people from Kismet Kebabs, based at Milton House, in Maldon Road, Latching don, weighs in at over 2,000kg (314stone).

Standing at 6ft 3inches tall, it took over a week for staff to hand make the lamb kebab, which was created using quality cuts of meat and cost more than £4,000.

It has to be lifted by a forklift truck to and from the freezer.

Sadly the record cannot be made official and enter the Guinness World Records because it allegedly has to be cooked to qualify and burners large enough to accommodate the giant kebab simply don’t exist.

The existing world record is held by the Maroosh Lebanese Café in Albury, New South Wales, Australia, which made a 413kg kebab in October 2004.

Instead, the makers are intending to donate the mighty meat to the Colchester Garrison early next month for soldiers to enjoy, though catering staff there were unable to confirm anyone from Kismet Kebabs had been in touch.Kismet Kebabs managing director Peter Michael, said: “It was my idea really, I guess.

“In our industry they all use machinery. We are the only hand made merchants left. We are a local company and wanted to show that we can make any size of kebab.”

He added: “This is a great thing. If we had the freezer space we could have gone even bigger.”

Kismet Kebabs produces more than 50 tons of hand-made kebabs per week and is Halal Monitoring Committee (HMC) certified.

World's largest flower 2011, World's individual largest flower, Largest Flower in the world, Biggest Flower in the world, Rafflesia arnoldii picture, 2011 World's largest flower, World's biggest flower 2011
Rafflesia arnoldii is a member of the genus Rafflesia. It is noted for producing the largest individual flower on earth, and a strong odor of decaying flesh – the latter point earning it the nickname of “corpse flower”. It occurs only in the rainforests of Sumatra and Borneo in the Indonesian Archipelago. Although there are some plants with larger flowering organs like the Titan Arum and Talipot palm, those are technically clusters of many flowers.

Several species of Rafflesia grow in the jungles of southeast Asia, including the Philippines. Many of them are threatened or endangered. The flower of Rafflesia arnoldii is the largest which attains a diameter of nearly one meter (3 ft) and can weigh up to 11 kilograms (24 lb).

It lives as a parasite on the Tetrastigma vine, which grows only in primary (undisturbed) rainforests. Rafflesia lacks any observable leaves, stems or even roots, yet is still considered a vascular plant. Similar to fungi, individuals grow as thread-like strands of tissue completely embedded within and in intimate contact with surrounding host cells from which nutrients and water are obtained.

Perhaps the only part of Rafflesia that is identifiable as distinctly plant-like are the flowers; although, even these are unusual since they attain massive proportions, have a reddish-brown coloration and stink of rotting flesh, which is why it was nicknamed the “corpse flower”. This scent attracts insects such as flies which then pollinate the rare plant. It is not to be confused with the Titan Arum, Amorphophallus titanum, which is also commonly referred to as the “corpse flower”.

Rafflesia arnoldii is rare and fairly hard to locate. It is especially difficult to locate the flower in forests as the buds take many months to develop and the flower lasts for just a few days.

The flowers are unisexual and thus proximity of male and female flowers is vital for successful pollination. These factors make successful pollination a rare event.

Biggest art class in the world - World's Biggest art class Guinness World Record

Mouth and foot painting artist Katrina Gardner, leading yesterdays attempt on the world record for the biggest art class at The Bonus Arena in Hull , despite having too few participants, the event certainly caught the imagination of many youngsters, several of whom also made the most of the opportunity during the school holidays to try to paint with their feet.

Hundreds of children and their families crowded into the Bonus Arena in Hull yesterday to try and take the Guinness Book of Records title for the biggest art class in the world.

But despite organisers’ efforts, the final tally fell more than 100 short of the current record of 809 people, who were taught by artist Martin Thomas at the Modell, Hobby, Spiel trade show in Leipzig, Germany on September 30 2006.

The event was led by Katrina Gardner, an artist who paints with her feet.

Katrina was one of 10,000 babies born with malformed limbs between 1958 and 1961 as a result of their mothers taking Thalidomide while pregnant.

Her interest in painting began at an art class in the village of Sproatley, near Hull, where she lives and she eventually became a member of the Association of Mouth and Foot Painting Artists, a group of disabled artists who use their mouths or feet to create original works of art.

Yesterday Katrina, armed only with a microphone, fought to make herself heard above the general hubbub to teach hundreds of schoolchildren and their parents a lesson based on the rules of perspective.

Paper and pencils were provided – but no paint – as they concentrated over their drawings, some trying to copy Katrina’s dextrous use of her feet.

Katrina, who was one of a team of artists to join Rolf Harris in painting a giant replica of Constable’s The Hay Wain in Trafalgar Square in 2004, said: “It was great, I really enjoyed it.

Mr Lamb, whose idea it was, said: “I think a World Record was always going to be a hard push but to get this amount of people going into a hall on a hot, sunny day is pretty good going.

“We had 3,000-plus people through the door and I think if there’d been a cloudburst at 2pm we’d have been laughing, but there were that many people enjoying the facilities outside that it stopped people coming back in,” he added..

“But the event was a fantastic success. The day is about community cohesion, schools working together and supporting each other and allowing families to do something that they can enjoy as families.”

The Association of Mouth and Foot Painting Artists was founded in Liechtenstein in 1956.

Prominent members include Alison Lapper, whose pregnant sculpture appeared on the Fourth Plinth in Trafalgar Square in 2005.

Lapper has a congenital disorder, phocomelia, which caused her to be born without arms and with truncated legs.

The AMFPA represents 800 mouth and foot painting artists in 70 countries around the world.

They receive grants or are taken on as members and receive a regular income for their artistic proficiency. Katrina is currently a student.

Work produced by its artists can be seen in the UN Headquarters in Geneva or the European Council in Strasbourg.

There are believed to be around 3,500 people currently living with the effects of Thalidomide. Of those survivors, many have had to endure discrimination and prejudice.

They have had to fight for paltry compensation from the German drug company which manufactured Thalidomide.

The new oldest living man is turning 114 years old today. Jiroemon Kimura from Kyoto, Japan has been named by the Guinness World Records organization as the new ‘Oldest Living Man’. The previous record holder was Walter Breuning from the US, who passed away on April 14, 2011 at the age of 114.

Kimura was born on April 19, 1897 and is the third oldest person living in Japan. The other two are women; Chiyono Hasegawa was born on November 20, 1896 and Shige Hirooka was born on January 16, 1897.

Kimura also is the only known man to be alive that was born before 1900. He is also on the Guinness World Records list for the top 10 list of oldest people; he ranks sixth.

Kimura said that he attributes his longevity to eating meals that are small in portion size. He also said that he likes to read the newspaper, but he uses a magnifying glass in order to read it.

The US has not lost out to having a record of longevity. The Guinness World Records for the ‘Oldest Living Person’ goes to Besse Berry Brown who was born on August 26, 1896 and is from the US.

Seated on top of the chair was a statue of Zhao Tian-jun, the God of Wealth.

The event, organized by the Dunhe Temple in Caotun Township, Nantou County, was in celebration of the god’s 351st birthday.

“Never in the history of the world has a single sedan chair been carried by so many men, and never has there been a sedan chair as large as ours,” temple officials said, noting that the sedan is 1.23 meters long and 8.5 meters wide.

The officials added they would apply to have their feat certified by the Guinness Book of World Records.

As the sedan was paraded through the streets of Caotun, spectators stood and marveled at the god and the prodigious strength of the men bearing its weight on their shoulders.

The sedan chair was built at a cost of over NT$1.4 million (US$48,275) and was constructed using a total of 16 bars in a criss-cross pattern.

Master carver Chen Qiu-lin said the initial frame of the chair was made entirely out of wood, and that the sedan chair initially weighed 888 kilograms.

The temple was concerned that the chair would be too heavy, so they had it broken down. Last week, they changed to using stainless steel rods, helping to bring the weight down to 280 kilograms.

In spite of the loss in weight, the structure still constitutes the heaviest sedan chair ever made.

Mile high Kingdom Tower planned for Saudi Arabia will be world's tallest building.

The Saudi Royal family has unveiled plans to construct the world's tallest building, Kingdom Tower in Saudi Arabia, said to be one mile high.

This astonishing skyscraper is set to become the world’s tallest building – and it really will stick out a mile.

Plans were unveiled yesterday for Kingdom Tower in Saudi Arabia which will be exactly one mile high.

It will have 275 floors and be twice the height of Burj Khalifa in Dubai, which is currently the world’s tallest building.

Kingdom Tower is expected to cost £12billion to construct and it will take 12 minutes to reach the top in a lift.

Members of the Saudi royal family unveiled the proposals showing that the megastructure will include hotels, offices apartments and a shopping centre.

The tower will have 12 million cubic square feet of interior space – 12 times more than Canary Wharf in East London. And it will be five times higher than the Shard of Glass in South London which will be Britain’s tallest building when completed next year.

Kingdom Tower will be financed by the Saudi royal family-owned Kingdom Holding Company which is chaired by Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal and is the nation’s largest company.

The project has been criticised by Rory Olcayto, deputy editor of The Architects’ Journal, who said: “The race to build the highest skyscraper is quite futile – where do you stop?

“These buildings are a symbol of an old-fashioned way of thinking.”

Most people blowing bubbles at the same time attempt to Guinness world record 2011

VENTNOR, N.J. - From an elementary school in New Jersey to an autism center in Australia, thousands of people lined up with plastic wands and bottles of soapy water Friday, sending millions of bubbles skyward in an attempt to break the world record for the most people blowing bubbles simultaneously in multiple locations.

The effort marked the second attempt by the mother of an autistic child to break the Guinness world record to raise awareness for autism.

Isabelle Mosca of Ventnor had volunteers in 114 locations across the country, and as far away as Australia, the Dominican Republic, and Puerto Rico. They aimed to break the record of 34,529 set in 198 locations in England in 2007.

"People I'm never going to meet are blowing bubbles all around the world because they care, and that is so touching to me," Mosca said.

"We sometimes explain autism to people by imagining you're in a classroom and having an aquarium on your head," she said. "All these colorful fish are swimming around your head and past your eyes, and you're seeing all this and you're still expected to assimilate and behave and be appropriate. We should celebrate these kids."

When he was in preschool, her son Kyle had trouble interacting with his classmates, and during the often sleepless nights, his mom wracked her brain trying to come up with activities that he could share with them. One night, it hit her: Kyle loves blowing bubbles. She soon learned that other autistic children have a similar fascination with bubbles, and Kyle's school agreed to hold events each year for autism centered on a bubble theme.

Kyle is now 13, and he helped lead one of the events at the Ventnor school just outside Atlantic City.

"This is great. Great!" he exclaimed as more than 1,000 students ringed the athletic field and blew bubbles into a stiff wind that whisked them skyward.

"We have a perfect day for them to go all up to the sky," his mother said. "All our wishes are going to be heard now."

Mosca got thousands to participate last year, but people at many events failed to properly document their participation as required by Guinness World Records Ltd. This time she took no chances, with detailed paperwork required, signatures checked, and deadlines enforced. The attempt was synchronized across multiple time zones so that everyone was blowing bubbles at the same time.

The supporting documentation will be sent to Guinness. It will be several weeks before organizers know if they surpassed the total and whether Guinness will validate their attempt.

In nearby Atlantic City, hundreds of casino workers stopped what they were doing for a few minutes to take part in the event, including 100 on the Boardwalk outside Resorts Casino Hotel, 79 in a fourth-floor ballroom at the Tropicana Casino and Resort, and a combined 441 at Caesars, Bally's Harrah's, and the Showboat Casino Hotel.

SWAP Nova - World's lightest touch screen phone 2011 set Guinness World Record

SWAP Nova weighs only 43g,the lightest touch-screen phone ever.

While at the Gadget Show Live, we managed to get a sneak-peek of the Nova ahead of it’s official weigh-in, to see what the fuss is all about.

The size has to be seen to be believed- it was hard to find something of comparable size- we settled on a Mars bar.

The 1.76-inch screen has a resolution of 220x176 pixels, and that tiny screen does mean a tiny battery, which promises to charge in under 2 hours. It can connect to PC by USB, with sWaP (It stands for smart watch and phone)

Inside the box, you’ll get the phone, stereo earphones, a keychain loop, lanyard, mini-stylus, which is already attached to the phone on the right side, protective case and a 2GB microSD.

The phone may be slightly more bare-bones than a smartphone on the features front, but does manage to include Bluetooth connectivity, FM radio, and can play video and music.

It has also been recently upgraded to quad-band, meaning it can travel with you around the world- it really shouldn’t trouble your baggage allowance. Aside from messaging and call services there’s also WAP internet if you’re willing to do that on a sub-two-inch display...

The Nova, available in red and black, it’s available now at sWaP’s own site, as well as other stockists like Maplin and Amazon, priced at £299. There’s also a “Crystal” Nova, with a crystal rim, and white leather-coated ‘hook’ at the top- if you’re into that stuff. The ‘bling’ does add an extra four grams though.

Petersfield tattooist - Most number of tattoo design in 24 hours set Guinness World Record

Petersfield tattooist - Most number of tattooing design in 24 hours set Guinness World Record 2011

A Petersfield tattooist has designs on inking his way into the Guinness Book of Records by tattooing more than 800 people in 24 hours.

Jason Ling, owner of Broken Heart Tattoo Studio in Chapel Street, is confident he can convince hundreds of men and women to visit his shop and get the same tattoo done one after another on Saturday, July 16.

The 41-year-old is offering to tattoo a small Help For Heroes design on each participant’s body for a small donation.

To break the world record, set in the US, he must tattoo 802 people within 24 hours.

Jason estimated he has up to one minute 22 seconds to spend on each person’s tattoo, allowing him a 15 minute break every five hours.

With just over three months to go until he makes his world record attempt, the tattoo artist needs to find enough bodies willing to take part in the challenge.

Jason said: “There are two reasons why I am doing this.

“The record is currently held by a tattoo artist in the US, so firstly we want to bring the record to England and secondly we want to raise money for the charity Help for Heroes.

“I think it is such a great cause that people will hopefully say “I helped the Help for Heroes charity by getting this logo on my leg”.”

The design Jason intends to replicate for each tattoo is a silhouette of the Help for Heroes logo, with the word “heroes” replacing the stretcher in the middle.

It will be three inches by one inch wide in size and outlined in two colours.

On a normal working day Jason finishes about five or six tattoos in his studio, so his working pattern needs to be completely overhauled if he is to become a world record holder.

He has arranged for a team of up to 15 people to help him through the day and night, assisting with signing people in, cleaning the studio and arranging the queues.

Collecting tins will be on hand for people to donate and Jason hoped the event would raise thousands for the cause.

He said: “We have registered our attempt with The Guinness Book of Records, which will send down an adjudicator on the day to record it.

“Our studio is big enough to cope with the numbers.

“I have got two or three celebrities in mind to get tattooed as well - hopefully the last person I get done will be a famous name - so watch this space.”

He added: “We want as many local people as possible to come down and get involved.

“If we get into the record books it will be a great boost for Petersfield as well.”

Jason will spread the word about his attempt when he appears at tattoo conventions in Southampton and Portsmouth during May and June.

Greenpeace - Most number of comments on a Facebook post set world record 2011

Greenpeace has been pushing Facebook continuously to “Unfriend Coal,” as we’ve covered from time to time here on Planetsave. The last time I updated you, last week, I mentioned that Greenpeace was going to attempt the World Record for the highest number of comments on a Facebook post within a 24-hour period.

Well, today is the day of the attempt, and the record has already been crushed. As I’m writing this, there are over 59,000 comments on the post. The target to break the record according to Guinness World Records was 50,000.

Nonetheless, the day is not over and Greenpeace is pushing us to hit 100,000 comments now. If you have done so yet, do so here.

Beyond the Internet

Beyond just stimulating an incomprehensible number of comments, Greenpeace is bring these comments to Facebook. It is “showing these comments in support of renewable energy on a large scrolling screen in front of Facebook’s headquarters.”

How can Facebook ignore this?
50 Top Commenters Will Win a Prize

Greenpeace announced that it would be choosing the 50 top commenters of the day based on “the number of comments they make, the number of friends they tag, and the quality of the comments” and give them each a ‘Facebook Unfriend Coal’ t-shirt. Think you’ve got what it takes to win?
Commenting Tips

Greenpeace has left us with a handful of great commenting tips. Use these and go comment now!

Songkran festival: celebrating new year in Thailand and Myanmar with water fights

The annual Songkran or water throwing festival has now kicked off into high gear across Thailand, as thousands of revelers in Bangkok have set a new record for the world's largest water gun fight to mark this year's Songkran celebrations, Thai News Agency (TNA) reported.

In an attempt to break the 2007 world record in Spain, a crowd of 3,477 participated in the water pistol fight for 10 minutes in the Thai capital yesterday in the Guinness World Records attempt, surpassing the old record of 2,671. The revelers started assembling on Wednesday afternoon for the battle outside the Central World shopping complex, one of Bangkok's major Songkran venues.

Bangkok Governor Sukhumbhand Paribatra, who chaired the event, which was also witnessed by ambassadors of Kenya, Cuba, Singapore and Pakistan to Thailand, said that the successful attempt reflected the unity of Thai people through a unique cultural display during the annual traditional Thai New Year festivity.

Elsewhere in Bangkok, Thais and foreign tourists have thronged Khao San Road, a popular travelers' destination in a historic part of the city. With well-organized and safety measures, the 500-meter road is an ideal place to join the summer water-throwing.

In the northern resort Chiang Mai Province, considered a Songkran hotspot, downpours Wednesday afternoon could not deter what appeared a great fun of Songkran celebrants, both Thai and foreign tourists, as local roads along the city's wall were packed with the revelers on foot and vehicles, splashing water on each other--though the showering created a rare scene of people in raincoats.

In Hat Yai, Thailand's main commercial hub in the South, tourists from neighbouring Malaysia and Singapore joined the town's prime area in a large number.

Hat Yai's Midnight Songkran has allowed people to extend their fun time until late hours--amid well-prepared security measures to ensure social order.

It is estimated that Hat Yai alone will attract over 50,000 tourists during the Songkran Festival this year.

Chagrin Falls man one of world's most influential people 2011

CHAGRIN FALLS -- Some "A-list" celebrities and pop culture icons are taking a back seat to a guy from Chagrin Falls.

Oscar-Award winning director of Toy Story 3, Lee Unkrich, has made children and parents smile through his work.

That's why this year's Blossom Time Celebration in downtown Chagrin Falls has a "Toys Are Back In Town" theme.

Unkrich will serve as the parade's grand marshall, marking his first public appearance here at home since his Oscar win.

The Blossom Time Festival turns 55 years this Memorial Day weekend and the theme -- and major honoree -- are living proof that dreams really can come true.

"I went off to California when I was 17 with dreams of making movies," Unkrich said. "To come back to Chagrin now, especially with an Oscar in hand, is pretty exciting."

Now at 43, Lee Unkrich, whose childhood is filled with memories of walking in this parade himself, will serve as the grand marshal.

"Just the storyline of the movie -- that in and of itself is exciting," said Unkrich, a Chagrin Falls High School graduate.

Unkrich's success isn't just being noticed in his loyal hometown.
Time Magazine has him as a nominee for one of the most influential people in the world on its 2011 Time 100 poll.

"I still feel very much just like a normal guy raising my family -- pretty weird," Unkrich said.

So far, this normal guy is out-ranking people like Oprah, Prince William and Kate Middleton... and Justin Beiber.

The pop star Beiber was ironically the one to award Lee with is Golden Globe.

"I said, 'Were you even born when the first Toy Story came out?'" Unkrich said, "So here's a kid who probably wasn't born when I did the first [movie] handing me an award for directing the third one."

A movie that set box office records with roots right here at home.

"Lee's visit really puts an exclamation point on our celebration," said Paul Chess of the Chagrin Valley Jaycees. "This allows us to celebrate our hometown hero."

With this year's theme also comes a chance for some major charity work.

Unkrich is going to do a question-and-answer session in Riverside Park on Saturday night, open to everyone and free of charge. People who come to the event are being asked to bring a new toy that will be donated to the Salvation Army.

Toy Story 3 was the highest-grossing film of 2010 worldwide.

Fly Morocco 2011 - Latest hang gliding adventure in Africa set world record

Born from the epic Fly Namibia expeditions of 2008-2010, Fly Morocco is the latest hang gliding adventure in Africa aimed at breaking world records and flying big distance. Organiser Erick Angles will be blogging here for the duration of the expedition

The group of top French hang glider pilots has set up camp in the super dry deserts of Morocco. Armed with trikes to aerotow themselves into the big skies of the Maghreb in Africa they plan to fly for a month. Their goal is simple: World Records!

Basing themselves near Ouarzazate, 75km south east of the Atlas mountains in the sub-Saharan plateau that runs into the main desert itself, the expedition will be the first we know of to try big distance flying in the area.

The terrain is dry and rocky with ravines and escarpments criss-crossing the barren landscape. The airmass is generally dry this time of year, giving high bases and good climbs.

If the flying turns on, big distances could be flown, with even longer retrieves if pilots land in any of the vast tracts of uninhabited land.

Blogging from the sub Sahara for XCMag.com is Fly Morocco organiser and pilot Erick Angles. He will be filing daily reports here as and when he can – check back to this page every day for updates from the edge of the Sahara.

The first ULMs and dollies are built and in place. At the end of the afternoon we made our first flights amongst superb colours. It’s magnificent. It’s just like the moon of Tatooine in Star Wars IV, which is no surprise as it was filmed here. It’s a completely incredible landscape. In Ouarzazate we found the film studios used by George Lucus and visited them on foot as we are in the TMA airspace.

We are in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by one of the most beautiful mountain ranges in the world. The Atlas is right in front of us. Mont Mgoun (4,060m) the second highest peak in the range is only 100km away as the crow flies.

Towering head and shoulders above her own parents Malee Duangdee, at 6ft 10in is one of the world's tallest teenagers.

Weighing 20.5 stone the 19-year-old from eastern Thailand has suffered painful school memories of bullies and a lifetime of loneliness.

“I used to feel like a freak, school children used to bully me and call me names,” she said.

"But since leaving school I’ve tried to feel more comfortable with who I am. I’ve got used to life on my own, but it’s hard.”

Malee’s mother, Ji, 40, did not realise Malee was ‘different’ until she was around nine-years-old when she began to grow much faster than her school friends.

“I took her to the doctor because I wanted to be sure there was nothing seriously wrong with her."

But Malee was diagnosed with a brain tumour, which was pressing on a nerve causing a hormone imbalance.

Malee has also lost the sight in her eyes as a result.

“I’ve been tall for as long as I can remember and taking medication is part of my daily life,” she said.

“But as I’ve got older my eye sight has got worse and it’s really difficult for me to get around.”

Malee needs an injection every three months to control the benign brain tumour and stop her from growing.

But it’s costing the family almost £2,000 a time.

"The injections have really helped to control her growth but they are expensive," said Ji.

"She is supposed to have an injection every three to six months, but we can't always afford them so we are not sure if she's still growing."

For the time being Malee's condition appears to be under control and her life has turned around.

She no longer attends school and is glad those days are behind her.

“All the kids used to call me names, the one I could never understand was ‘Dirty Malee’. They were always so nasty," she said.

“It would make me so sad. I was desperate to have some friends to play with but they all ignored me.

"Thankfully I had a good teacher who tried to help me and now I have nothing to do with them.”

Malee now spends all her time with her family, especially her three-year-old little sister, Daoruang.

She added: “I help my mother around the house and cook meals. Or I’ll cycle to see my aunt in the next village. I don’t do much.

“I’ve never had a boyfriend. I don’t think marriage is possible for someone like me, I’m just too different.”

But as Malee gets older she would love some more independence.

“My father gets very worried about me, he doesn’t let me go anywhere alone because sometimes I need help getting up, I’m pretty heavy," she said.

"But I’d love to be like any other 19 year old and live alone, build a life for myself and have fun but who knows what will happen.”

Malee was in The Guinness Book of World Records as the tallest girl in January, 2009. And not even the Brazilian Elisany Silva, 16, has knocked her off the spot as she only measures 6ft 9ins (206cm) tall.

Dhaka: Shane Watson knocked Bangladesh's bowlers senseless with a world record tally of sixes as the Australians galloped to a nine-wicket victory in the second limited overs match in Mirpur to seal the series.

The target of 230 had appeared a possible banana skin on a slow pitch offering some turn, but Watson made such light work of it, that his unbeaten185 from 96 balls now stands as the highest ODI score by an Australian, overtaking Matthew Hayden's 181 against New Zealand in 2007.

Xavier Marshall's 2008 mark for most sixes fell when Watson swung his 13th over the rope, the second six in as many balls off the bowling of Abdur Razzak. Watson added two more for good measure to also shatter one of ODI cricket's more enduring records, for the highest individual percentage of runs in a completed innings. His 79.74% bested Viv Richards' 69.48% in his momentous 189 not out, out of 272 for 9, against England in 1984.

Following Michael Clarke's century in game one, vice-captain Watson struck a mighty blow for the visitors' new leadership duo, accompanied most of the way by the unbeaten Ricky Ponting, although it came against a Bangladesh attack that was cowed into submission from virtually the first over of the chase.

Dropping Cameron White for Callum Ferguson as they sought a series-sealing victory, the Australians were in total command when Bangladesh slid to 88 for 5. But Rahim, allrounder Mahmudullah and left-arm spinner Suhrawadi Shuvo pushed the hosts to 229 for 7.

Shahriar Nafees had done his best to keep the first half of the innings from petering out entirely but he was not helped by the funereal approach of opener Imrul Kayes, who lingered 41 balls to gouge out five runs. Mitchell Johnson and Steve Smith shared five well-deserved wickets, while Brett Lee was short of luck during a spell that was damaged after he leaked 17 runs in his final over.

As if to stamp his intent on proceedings, Watson coshed 14 from the first over of the reply and made 27 before his partner, Brad Haddin, had even faced a ball. Together they added 62 before Haddin, having contributed eight, mistimed a catch to midwicket for his second low score of the series.

Ponting was largely happy to enjoy his front-row seat for the Watson exhibition, which will please his Rajasthan Royals captain Shane Warne as much as it did Clarke. The punishment was never greater than in the 22nd over, when Shuvo was deposited for four leg-side sixes, illustrating Watson's fearful power against supine opponents.

Seeking parity at 1-1 after Shakib Al Hasan won the toss, Tamim Iqbal offered a flashy drive at Johnson in the second over and sliced to the left of the solitary slip where Shane Watson held an excellent catch. In the next over Lee and the rest of the Australians were convinced they had Imrul gloving a well-directed short ball behind, but a vociferous and sustained appeal went unheeded, decision reviews not being used during the series. Australia's disgust at not claiming the wicket would be alleviated across the next eight overs, as Imrul crawled to five from 41 balls, draining the innings of all momentum and then compounded his sin by swinging unwisely at Johnson to sky a leg-side catch.

The next man in, Raqibul Hasan, played down the wrong line at Hastings and was bowled for a duck, before Smith ripped a leg break between Shakib's bat and pad in his first over, leaving Shahriar to attempt to repair the damage. He had reached 56 when Smith flighted a leg break and was rewarded with the tamest of return catches, as the hosts slid to 88 for 5.

From this dire base developed a partnership between Mahmudullah and wicketkeeper Rahim, lifting Bangladesh into the realm of respectability with a combination of neat strokes and tidy running between the wickets. They were bracing for the batting Powerplay when Watson pinned Mahmudullah in front of middle stump, but Rahim, Shuvo and Shafiul Islam spirited away 59 runs from the final five overs to ensure a target that hinted at competitiveness.

The home side's only change was to withdraw Mashrafe Mortaza from the firing line, replaced by Rubel Hossain, after Mortaza was significantly down on his usual pace in the series opener. Given Watson's subsequent pyrotechnics, he may have been relieved to sit this one out.

Bangladesh 229/7 (50 ov)
Australia 232/1 (26.0 ov)
Australia won by 9 wickets (with 144 balls remaining)
Australia RR 8.92
Last 5 ovs 80/0 RR 16.00
Bangladesh RR 4.58

Zambales mango - Sweetest mangoes in the world

Senator Francis Pangilinan, chairman of the Senate committee on agriculture and food, urged local growers in Zambales to produce more mangoes for export to other countries.

The senator issued the statement as he cited Zambales mango as "one of the sweetest mangoes in the world.

Pangilinan, who was the guest of honor during the four-day Mango Festival, said the global market demand for these products continues to surge.

"In the same way, the Zambales Mango Festival could also be a national landmark festival because of the popularity of your native mangoes," Pangilinan added.

The four-day revelry began with a blare of drums and gongs as festival participants decked in mango-themed outfits joined a colorful parade that snaked its way in the streets of this capital town before ending at the Capitol grounds, where the opening rites were held.

Aside from the trade fair that showcased the best mango products in the province, the festival also featured various dance and sports competitions, fun games, art exhibit, and the finals for the Ginoo at Binibining Zambales pageant.

Zambales Governor Hermogenes Ebdane Jr. said the province should no longer compete with other provinces.

"What the province needs to do is develop a way to increase the shelf life of our sweet mango so that we can sell them even to distant places like Europe," he added.

Department of Tourism Central Luzon director Ronaldo Tiotuico said the Zambales Mango Festival is now among the Philippine festivals listed in the national calendar of events.

Tiotuico also cited Ebdane for continuing with the vision of the Mango Festival to promote the popular mango fruit and boost tourism in Zambales.

The locally-grown carabao mango (Magnifera indica) has been listed in the 1995 Guinness Book of World Records as the sweetest in the world, on top of other tropical mangoes grown in other countries.

Largest group of hot air balloons crossing the English Channel attempt to world record

A colourful collection of 50 craft journeyed over the Dover Strait, one of the world’s busiest waterways, in about four hours.

The last ones made it from Lydden in Kent to Calais at about 11am for a champagne reception.

‘I’m absolutely elated we have done it,’ said organiser Ian Sharpe, 51, of Caterham in Surrey.

‘It’s the culmination of 14 months of hard work that has paid off.’

Fellow balloonist Paul Komuro said: ‘It was an exhilarating experience.’

The trip was the first Guinness World Records attempt for the largest group of hot air balloons to make the Channel crossing. The flight is now being assessed by records experts.
