Most successful entertainment launch set world record - Modern Warfare

Guinness World Records has confirmed that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 became the most successful entertainment launch of all time when it released on November 10, 2009.

With verified one day sales totalling more than £242.4 million, worldwide, the blockbuster sequel was the fastest selling entertainment product in its first 24 hours on sale, breaking the Guinness World Record previously set by the launch of Grand Theft Auto IV.

"This achievement is a reflection of the support from our community of fans around the world," said Creative Strategist, Robert Bowling from developer Infinity Ward. "The Call of Duty series and Modern Warfare have been our passion - we've dedicated our lives to giving our best, so it's an honour to be recognised by setting a new standard among all entertainment properties."

Modern Warfare 2 blew past the record-setting video game launches of Grand Theft Auto IV (£159 million) and the previous record-holder, Halo 3, which took £84 million in its first 24 hours on sale.

Most runners wearing kilts ready to set world record

EMC Events - On Saturday, June 26 at 6 p.m., the town of Perth will host 1,210 runners attempting to set the world record for most runners wearing kilts. They are participating in the 8km Perth World Record Kilt Run.

The event was conceived by the owners of The Running Goat, Perth's local running store, as a way to celebrate the 800th anniversary of Perth, Scotland, which occurs this year.

The 1,210 participants, coming from as far away as Pennsylvania, Newfoundland and Nunavut, will receive a kilt as part of their entry fee and will wear the kilt for the 8 km (five mile) race. The race committee has communicated with the Guinness World Record organization and expects to set a world record for the largest number of people running a race in a kilt.

"I was intrigued by the uniqueness of the event as soon as I heard about it," said Jack Taylor, president of Lanark Mutual Insurance Company, the race's title sponsor, "we jumped on board as soon as we could."

Runners will start and finish at the historic town hall in Perth and will wind their way through the streets past many historic sites and will follow a picturesque loop through the Perth Golf Course, Canada's oldest continually run golf course. There will be age group prizes following the race as well as a spectacular draw prize for all participants for a trip for two to Scotland sponsored by the Smiths Falls and Perth Chiropractors!

"As the designated race charity, we are so pleased with the overwhelming response to this race," states Danielle Leguard-White, the spokesperson for the MS Society of Canada, which will receive all proceeds from the race. All participants have an additional incentive to raise money for the MS Society as every $50 raised entitles the runner for an additional chance to win the trip to Scotland.

Race organizers originally hoped for 500 participants, several times bigger than any running event in Perth. However, the popularity of the event caught everyone by surprise and the numbers blossomed to over a thousand.

Organizers have capped the event at 1,210 which is also the year that Perth Scotland was founded! Now, with runners registered and kilts ordered, the committee is focused on producing a first class event that will showcase the beauty and hospitality of Perth.

World's fastest skateboarding dog - Tillman

Tillman, the world’s fastest skateboarding canine, has set paw in New York for the first time.

The 4-year-old English bulldog traveled from Southern California for Saturday’s “Bark in the Park” event, when Mets fans can catch a game with their pooch at Citi Field.

“He loves New York,” says Tillman’s owner, 40-year-old Ron Davis, as the bulldog showed off his skills in Tompkins Square Park. “There is a lot of concrete for him to do his thing.”

The 60-pound dog even turns and does tricks.

“He just pulled a no-comply, top-shove-it move that we got on tape,” says Davis, who has also trained Tillman to surf and snowboard. “What can I say? He’s an adrenaline junkie.”

Named after the late NFL star and U.S. Army Ranger Pat Tillman, the board-crazy canine set the world record in 2009 by rolling 100 meters in 19.6 seconds.

Davis attributes Tillman’s skateboarding skills to his sturdy body and unique warmup method.

“Tillman’s ritual before he skates is to chew on each wheel,” says Davis. “I think it’s a way of lubing them up and checking the tire pressure.”
