World's most expensive carpet set world record - Persian carpet

An anonymous overseas bidder bought the Most expensive carpet in the world to rapturous applause in the saleroom.

Speaking after the record breaking sale, William Robinson, Director of the Rugs and Carpets at Christie's, said: 'This example has huge charm, subtlety and balance, which combine in a design of deceptive simplicity.'

A spokesman added that the quality of the rug was a reflection of the great talent of the weavers of the Iranian city of Kirman, who were 'arguably the most inventive and influential of all carpet designers'.

World's Smartest Horse - Lukas

Chino Hills, Calif., USA -- Lukas, a 17-year-old thoroughbred gelding in Chino Hills, Calif., was trained by his owner Karen Murdoch, to master 35 amazing feats - setting the world record for the Smartest Horse.

Lukas now 17, is a rescued off-the-track thoroughbred who had bowed both tendons as a young horse preparing for a life of racing. The injuries precluded him from ever seeing the starting gate in a race. Lukas changed hands a few times and at one point was malnourished before finding his trainer and owner, Karen Murdock. Lukas came into Karen's life when he was around 10 years of age. "I was only hoping to show him in a few lower level tests". "Put a few tricks into him and sell him to a good home", however Lukas had other ideas. And so a partnership based on mutual respect and rewards begun. They have been learning together for the past 6 or 7 years.

watched in awe of a "Playing With Lukas" video on YouTube that shows Lukas identifying colors, shapes, and catching a rag being tossed towards his face. Horses would not normally want something flying around their head, so the level of trust is shown with just the simple act of his catching the towel. Lukas is motivated by carrots and responds throughout the video to patience, reassuring words, subtle hand gestures, clicks and smooches from Karen. All the while looking for that next delicious carrot.

Karen and Lukas want to focus on spreading the word that horses have a great deal of potential beyond the race track, and those facing bleak futures. "People everywhere mention to me that they didn't realize a horse could understand things like Lukas is able to". Lukas is able to perform at-liberty high level dressage moves to walking on his own down a driveway to play hide and seek with a towel. "If people know horses are smart, they are less likely to hurt them" says Karen. "It's a way for us to communicate and have fun together".

Karen Murdock is happy to offer Lukas and his talents to non profit groups and isn't looking to make a profit from the time and patience it's taken to build the bond between horse and owner. Karen says "I am just happy to be putting good out into the world".

World's Most Expensive Wine Bottle - Intage Dom Perignon

The methuselah of 1996 Rosé Gold, dubbed the 'King of Champagnes', was sold at a top London hotel. A till receipt shows the buyer left a £10,625 tip – in addition to the £4,375 service charge.

The gratuity raised the total to £50,000, or the equivalent of £1,562.50 per glass.
The buyer – thought to be a Russian billionaire – is said to have spilt ''at least three glasses'' within minutes of the purchase at the Westbury Hotel on Tuesday.

While other champagnes have sold more at auction, the Rosé Gold is believed to be most expensive single bottle ever bought from a bar.
It was sold on Tuesday night at a VIP after-show party following the gala screening of new British comedy, 'Boogie Woogie'.
Elias Yiallouri, the bar manager, yesterday refused to reveal the buyer's identity.
But he said: ''Dom Perignon is famed for being the 'first' or 'stars' Champagne', but Rosé Gold is the finest of all its brands – the champagne of kings.
''The 1996 vintage is regarded as one of the finest in the 20th-Century and with only 35 bottles produced per year, its incredibly rare and sought-after.

''Each bottle is like a piece of fine art – stunningly beautiful, extremely valuable and highly collectable.''
The Rose Gold methuselah – the equivalent to eight standard-sized bottles – is produced by French winery Moët et Chandon and is prized for its ''excellence and elegance''.

The bottle itself has a metal casing dipped in rose gold, and is worth almost £20,000 alone.
It is so easily scratched that sommeliers are instructed to wear white silk gloves when opening or pouring.
According to its makers, the blend is ''characterised by the vivacious interplay between Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes'' and is ''copper pink with shades of amber and gold'' in colour.

World's Cleanest Sports Car 2011 set world record - Lotus Elise

DULUTH, GA, USA -- The 2011 Lotus Elise has been certified with a CO2 emission rating of 149 gm/km, delivering a 16 percent reduction in CO2 emission than the previous Lotus Elise S and setting the new world record for the Cleanest Sports Car.

The 2011 Lotus Elise also offers a handsome fuel economy of 56.1 miles per gallon (or 5.04 liters per 100 km). This means that a full fuel tank can take the car for a massive 500 miles (or 800 km).

The astoundingly low emission ratings can be attributed to several reasons. First and foremost is the 1.6-liter four cylinder VVT-I engine producing 100 kW / 134 hp that propels the car from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 6.0 seconds (0 to 100 km/hr in 6.5 seconds).

Secondly, Lotus has focused exclusively on light weight and efficiency. The new Elise weighs a meager 876 kg. Add to this the fact that the car has been specially designed to deliver an aerodynamic improvement of 4 percent and the low fuel emission rating becomes obvious.
