A classic car collector from Ohio made the winning bid of £2.6 million ($4.2 million) for James Bond's 1964 Aston Martin DB5 in a London auction on Wednesday.

Harry Yeaggy told the BBC he planned to take the vehicle first made famous by Sean Connery in Goldfinger out for a spin around London that night. "We're going to have a bit of fun with it," he said.

His winning bid at the RM Auctions sale in Battersea came in under the estimated £3 million. "I thought a European would get it," Yeaggy said, "but I guess they don't appreciate James Bond like we do."

He plans to display the car at his private museum in Ohio.

The vehicle as depicted in the Bond movies has revolving licence plates, Browning machine-guns, an ejector seat, a bullet-proof rear windshield and an early version of today's satellite navigation system.

It was previously owned by Jerry Lee, a U.S. broadcasting executive who paid $12,000 US for it in 1969. The proceeds of the sale will go to his charitable foundation that supports education and international anti-crime projects.

Bond's creator, novelist Ian Fleming, had originally placed Bond in a Bentley, but the filmmakers preferred the Aston Martin, which at the time competed with the Jaguar E-type for the lucrative British and American sports car market.

The fall of a chip sets off a cascading effect. As the chips lined up in formations fall, a wave is created and vibrant colour pattern emerges. It was not a mean task at Microsoft's Hyderabad Centre. The falling chips made a dazzling display of the logo of Windows 7, the operating system made available on October 22 last year.

This was the way a team of 22 Microsoft employees celebrated the first anniversary of the general availability of Windows 7 and the effort enabled Microsoft storm into the Limca Book of Records for the first ever dominoes display of its kind in India. The Microsoft Dominoes effect required 7,000 wooden dominoes, each weighting 12 gm and placed barely 0.2 inches apart sidewise and 0.5 inches lengthwise to create the logo.

“Placing each domino took an average of three seconds a person. We were extremely tense and knew that a small mistake would cost us 20-30 minutes of effort. To our relief, the event went off really well, with over 1,000 employees witnessing the chips fall from all around the atrium floors and create a dazzling display of the Windows 7 logo. It was seamless!” said team member Tanvi Ritwik.

The idea of organising a domino display was generated in a brainstorming session of Microsoft employees of Windows & Windows Live Group at Microsoft India Development Center that had worked on some key features of the Operating System. The team, led by Archis Gore, spent nearly 1056 hours (from planning to the culmination of the event). The effort required the same precision engineering and team work that product development does.

A Microsoft release quoted Limca Book of Records Editor Vijaya Ghose as saying: “This is the first ever display of dominoes in India and is a symbolisation of perfect coordination and exceptional synergy among team members.

Alik Gershon - Chess World Record 2010-2011 Set by Israeli Chess Grandmaster

New Guinness World Record 2010-2011 for Chess has been set by Alik Gershon, Israeli Chess Grandmaster by playing 527 ranked chess players at the same time in Tel Aviv and won 87 percent of the games. He won 454, lost 11 and drew the other 58.

With the ambition of breaking previous Guinness world of Iranian chess grandmaster Morteza Mahjoub set in 2009, Alik Gershon started playing the parallel matches on Thursday morning in Tel Aviv's Rabin Square. The record breaking chess game was finished on early Friday.

The Jewish Agency and the Israel Chess Federation were sponsors of the event to mark the 20th anniversary of the mass aliyah from the former Soviet Union. A former prisoner of Zion and now the chairman of the Jewish Agency, Natan Sharansky had attended the event.

The adversaries of Gershon, who are registered and ranked by the Israel Chess Federation, as per the requirements of the Guinness Book of Records, are refugees from the former Soviet Union. Gershon, 30, is a native of Dnepropetrovsk, Ukraine, who shifted to Israel in 1990.

Guinness Book of Records always scrutinizes the involved candidate’s performance. Anybody who is willing to make a Guinness Book Record needs to win at least 80 percent of the games. But Mohjoub’s record is 500 games! An amazing performance indeed!

Natan Sharansky, a chairman of Jewish Agency played a match against Gershon, in the beginning of this memorable event.

Gerson started learning chess at the age of tender 2. And at the age of 5 he was competing with others! And at the age 14 he became the world champion under 14. Also he won Israeli Championship in 2000.

Largest fishing tournament set Guinness World Record 2011

Largest fishing tournament photo, Largest fishing tournament picture, Largest fishing tournament video, National Team Championship (NTC) and MWC Guinness World Record 2011, list of winner Largest fishing tournament,longest-running professional walleye tournament circuit in the United States
A dual tournament of epic proportions made a splash in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, last June 5-6 when 714 anglers squared off for more than $350,000 in cash and prizes. Today, that effort has officially been recognized by Guinness World Records as history's largest fishing tournament.

A combination of the Cabela's National Team Championship (NTC) and MWC's Lake Winnebago Central Division Qualifier, the event featured 358 teams (all but two of which were two-person teams). The NTC is one of the most prestigious competitions in the country. Teams qualify by accumulating points in local tournaments organized by more than 50 sanctioned grassroots walleye clubs. Now in its 26th season, the Cabela's MWC is the longest-running professional walleye tournament circuit in the United States.

"This is a great honor," said MWC Sr. Events Coordinator Dan Johnson. "The event was a huge team effort by Cabela's, circuit staff, volunteers and local organizers."

The two-day event was marked by great fishing and a festival atmosphere as crowds of walleye fans gathered in scenic Menominee Park for the weigh-ins, and countless more watched online. When the dust settled, hometown heroes Michael Galligan and Stuart Wells, both of Oshkosh, were crowned NTC champions for their 10-fish limit weighing 26.24 pounds--caught on Northland Fishing Tackle Weed Weasels. The team was awarded $30,000 for first place plus a new Evinrude-powered 619 Ranger boat valued at more than $50,000. The total NTC payout was more than $241,000 in cash and prizes.

On the MWC side, Greg DeKalb and Joe Ebel captured top honors and a $27,060 first-place paycheck with 10 fish weighing 28.63 pounds, caught trolling 'crawler harnesses over Winnebago's mud flats. In all, the top 35 MWC teams shared a $100,360 dollar cash purse plus $1,000 in Ranger Cup cash, $500 Lowrance HDS bonus, $500 Cabela's Angler Cash, and $200 U2 Oxygenator bonus.

"The Oshkosh event was a phenomenal experience," Johnson added. "And we're already looking forward to breaking the record at our Cabela's NTC and MWC Bays de Noc dual tournament August 5-7 in Escanaba, Michigan."

Cabela's, the World's Foremost Outfitter for hunting, fishing and outdoor gear, is in its ninth season as title sponsor of the MWC. Official sponsors of the MWC include: Berkley, Ranger Boats, Mercury, MotorGuide, Lowrance, Fishouflage, Versus (Vs.) Television Network and North American Fishing Club. Associate Sponsors include: O2 Marine Technologies, 3-IN-ONE No Rust Shield, Abu Garcia, Fin-tech, Northland Fishing Tackle, Ryjus, Reflections, Sea Grant and Wildlife Forever. Cabela's NTC sponsors include Geico, Evinrude, Famous Dave's, Ranger Boats and Pepsi.

Thriller night: Michael Jackson fans dance to break world record 2011

Michael Jackson fans dance video, Thriller night dance photo, Largest simultaneous dance of Thriller, Michael Jackson fans dance to break world record, Michael Jackson Guinness World Record 2011, Thriller dance world record 2011, Jackson's Thriller dance
At 7 p.m. Saturday night, 8-year-old Marcus Garber slowly rose from the dead inside Harrisonburg's Valley Mall.

Playing the role of a "zombie" Michael Jackson, Marcus gave an impressive performance of Jackson's "Thriller" dance in front of the Belk department store, stepping in time with his fellow zombies in Harrisonburg and across the globe.

"I heard the whole world would be doing it, so I thought I'd join in," Marcus said before he made his death masquerade debut.

Dancers young and old participated in "Thrill The World" - an annual one-day event where people worldwide attempt to break the record for the largest simultaneous dance of "Thriller." According to the event's website, the event was created in 2006 by Canadian dance instructor Ines Markeljevic as a way to "inspire the world to dance."

Every October, registered participants in different countries dress in zombie-like costumes - ragged, ripped pieces of clothing and ghastly makeup - and follow Jackson's famous moves at the same day and time.

In addition to learning the dance, participants are asked to raise money for a charity of their choice.

Last year, Record Holders Republic, an official world record registry, gave "Thrill the World" a new record for having 22,923 people from 32 countries dance simultaneously to "Thriller."

The dancers began together after a countdown given by an Alice 93.7 DJ. The new Harrisonburg station advertised the event.

Those who wish to join the "Thrill The World" movement could learn the dance by watching either Markeljevic's DVD or online videos, both of which include a written script that associates words with dance steps.

"She made things simple by connecting dance moves with word prompts," said Karen Thomas, the event manager for Harrisonburg's performance.

Thomas, who teaches several dance classes at her downtown studio, Dancing With Karen, taught "Thriller" lessons once a month throughout the year beginning in January. After learning about "Thrill The World" from a couple she was teaching in August 2009, Thomas thought it would be fun to participate.

Although Thomas scheduled a "Thriller" performance last October inside the Dayton Learning Center, it wasn't an actual "Thrill The World" event.

"We didn't try to organize it into an event, it was more about just learning the dance," Thomas said.

This year, however, Thomas wanted to accomplish a record-breaking feat and raise money for two charities, Cat's Cradle and St. Mary's Pine Lutheran Church's Community Compassion Fund, which donates money to those with emergency needs.

Margo Cowolek, a 60-year-old avid dancer who's been taking classes at Thomas' studio for 15 years, personally raised close to $180 total for both charities.

Cowolek, who describes herself as a big fan of Jackson, decided to participate in the "Thrill The World" event as way to encourage Thomas' dance instruction and to introduce herself to other dancers.

"I'm a big supporter of Karen and everything that she does at the studio," Cowolek said. "I also wanted to meet some new people and I've made great friends."

Cowolek and her group of 18 zombies hit almost every move perfectly, looking like "Thriller" pros as they staggered and roared in unison before a crowd of children, teenagers and older adults.

Dancing toward the back, in a row near Cowolek, were JMU seniors, Rachel Kozlowski and Michelle Hunt.

Kozlowski, a mathematics major, attended the dress rehearsal the night before where she learned the entire dance from scratch.

"It was overwhelming at first, but it became easier because the steps are very repetitive," Kozlowski said.

The two friends have been trying to learn the "Thriller" dance since freshman year, but were never able to attend a formal lesson until Saturday night. Hunt, an interdisciplinary liberal studies major, thought learning the dance with strangers made performing easier.

"You can have fun with people you don't know and it doesn't feel weird," Hunt said. "We all feel kind of silly dressing up, so it takes the pressure away."

As the small group performed, two volunteers filmed the event with small video cameras. One of the two videos will be sent to Markeljevic, who will then submit the video as proof to the Record Holders Republic.

Currently, Markeljevic cannot submit videos of the performances to Guinness World Records, because there isn't a category for the largest simultaneous dance of "Thriller."

Tyler Shields Plans to Stay Awake for 40 Days Straight set world record 2011

Tyler Shields photo, Tyler Shields Stay Awake for 40 Days, Tyler Shields picture, Tyler Shields no sleep for 40 days, Without sleep World Records 2011, sleeplessness world record 2011, longest stretch of time awake, sleep-deprivation records
I always thought it would be pretty cool to set a world record. Unlike Tyler Shields, a 28-year-old photographer who’s determined to stay awake for 40 days straight, I lack the necessary self-discipline. Shields, who hails from LA, has long had problems with insomnia but recently decided to embrace his sleeplessness and set a world record for the longest stretch of time awake – 960 hours. He’s made it a long way already, as today he crossed the 38-day mark.

Shields explains the motivation behind his stunt, “People live in a ‘why’ world. I live in a ‘why not’ world.” He adds, “If you’re the greatest bread maker, you should make bread. If you’re the guy who doesn’t sleep, you shouldn’t sleep.”

(I’m not really sure I follow the logic there – but alright.)

Shields’ stunt has provoked a great deal of controversy due to its highly dangerous nature. The Guinness World Records organization, for example, has refused to take part in the ordeal, stating that the organization has long refused to recognize sleep-deprivation records. Shields has had to turn to his family and friends to help monitor his wakefulness.

Even more unbelievable, however, is that Shields continued with his daily work obligations up until very recently. He explains that he has trained himself to function very well on little sleep due to his insomnia. In these last days, however, Sheilds’ body seems to be lashing out. He explains that simple daily activities such as taking a shower are unbearably painful. He has lost feeling in his legs and is having severe bladder-control issues.

Medical professionals have voiced concern as to the tremendous harm he is doing to his body and mind. Friends and family have expressed concern about possible long-term effects of the experiment.

Graham Barker - World's Largest Navel Lint Collection lands set Guinness World Record

World's Largest Navel Lint Collection lands Australian librarian Guinness World Record

An Australian librarian has claimed the Guinness World Record for his unprecedented collection of belly button "fluff."

That's right. Graham Barker, 45, has dedicated the past 26 years to staring into his own navel, carefully extracting 22.1 grams of multi-colored lint which he stores in clear jars.

"Some think I must have too much time on my hands, which always strikes me as an illogical thing to say about a habit which only occupies ten seconds per day," he told the Daily Mail.

Barker says he "harvests" his crop while waiting for the shower every morning.

Shockingly, he says his revolting hobby was inspired by boredom.
World's Largest Navel Lint Collection photo, Graham Barker picture, Australian librarian Guinness World Record 2011, Graham Barker Guinness World Record 2011, collection of belly button fluff, collecting 22.1 grams of belly button fluff

"I noticed the lint in my navel and became curious as to how much of it one person can produce," he said. "I decided the only way to find out was to collect it for a while and see."

Barker, who describes "The Incredible World of Navel Fluff" on his website, says his collection has landed him numerous world records and notoriety.

So far, he has sold three of his fluff jars to a museum, but won't reveal how much they went for.

Whatever he got, it was worth it.

"Collecting lint costs nothing and takes almost no time or effort so there is no compelling reason to stop," Barker told the Daily Mail, explaining his plans to continue picking fuzz out of his bellybutton as long as humanly possible.

"I wouldn't call it an addiction because it's not something I feel any need to do. If my belly stopped producing lint tomorrow I might feel surprised but not disappointed."

Barker says the pastime is not uncommon.

"When I ran a navel lint survey many years ago a handful of respondents, who were all men, confessed to having saved up some of their lint at some point. But none had continued with it," he said. "One guy might have persisted, but he got married and his wife ordered him to stop."

For those cringing at the thought of jars of belly button waste, Barker will have you know you're a small minority.

The record breaking sushi mosaic used 120kg of rice and 65kg of Norwegian salmon, and took six hours and 15 minutes to complete.

Guinness World Records adjudicator Wu Xiaohong, confirmed the new world record and presented a certificate to confirm the feat.

This month,  officials form Guinness Book plan to meet Trupti to verify her claims.

Elated over the bumper opening of her film, Trupti, who's made an amazing on screen transformation, said: "This is the first time a woman has done a complete body make-up.

In the past, for films like Chachi 420 or Paa, the makeup was restricted to the upper body and mainly the face. But in Agadbamb I have used entire body make-up to play a fat woman."

Inspired from Eddie Murphy's film, Norbit, where he plays an overweight woman, Bhoir decided to use Indian make-up artists, for the project.

"We always turn to Hollywood for help, but ignore the immense potential in our own country. I have worked with local artists and technicians for my film.

Anil Pengrikar has worked with me on the body make-up. It took eight to nine hours to get under the body suit which weighed around 250 kg.

I acted and danced in the suit. Physically, it was the biggest challenge. We'd start make-up around 3 am and finish by 11 in the morning," she said.

Talking about the prosthetics used, Bhoir said: "I didn't want to do a shoddy job by taking a short-cut. We used liquid rubber, cement, foam and plaster of paris to cover my entire body.

The challenge was to make sure that joints like elbows and knees don't remain exposed. The suit had to cover my entire body."

Happy that the public has loved her in the role of an obese woman, Bhoir said: "My film has made Rs 45 lakhs in just the first three days of release. Even in the second week, shows are going housefull. I couldn't be more thankful."

'They have all been pretty active for most of their lives but I would not say their lives have been easy.

'Our whole family is really proud of them - everyone thinks they are fantastic.'  Oldest daughter Kathleen Clark was born in 1908 - the year Herbert Asquith took office in Downing Street - and went out to work as a maid the age of 12.

Orange (UK) - Most People Tagged In Online Photo set Guinness World Record

Most People Tagged In Online Photo, Most People Tagged Guinness World Record 2011, Orange (UK) Guinness World Record 2011, Most People Tagged via Facebook, how many People Tagged In Online Photo
Orange has officially set a new world record for the most people tagged in an online photo. The snap, taken at Glastonbury 2010 during the England versus Slovenia World Cup match (at half-time), had been tagged, via Facebook, by 7053 people between 29 June and 7 September.

That figure is now up to 8332 (at the time of writing), although Guinness World Records has already confirmed its entry into its hallowed tome. There's nothing to stop you also tagging yourself on the picture though, and taking part in the fun. Those who suspect that they were there should visit www.orange.co.uk/glastonbury and join in with the tagging frenzy.

Now, it's all well and good having new-fangled tech-based world records, but where's it going to end? Most use of the word "magical" in a press conference? Biggest collection of black turtle-neck sweaters? We prefer the good old, traditional records, like longest fingernails, and most amount of weight lifted by a bloke's tallywacker, that sort of thing.

They certainly formed interesting topics of conversation round our households at Christmas back in the day.

The crossing took some five minutes and was witnessed by hundreds of onlookers.

Divabot Robot - Dancing and Singing Robot created by Japan

Divabot Robot - Dancing and Singing Robot created by Japan, A new humanoid robot, the HRP-4, has been unveiled at the CEATEC Japan 2010 trade show. The robot, nicknammed "diva-bot," has learned to sing by mimicking a human singer, enabling it to sound natural and to sing with more expression than any previous robot.

A research team from the media interaction group at the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST) in Tokyo, Japan, and led by Masataka Goto, used a new technology called VocalListener to observe a real singer in action and synthesize the appropriate notes of the song with the help of Yamaha’s existing voice synthesizing software, Vocaloid.
The humanoid robot’s facial expressions were generated with a second new technology, called Vocawatcher, which analyzes video of a singer to mimic the expressions.

A human singer singing a typical Japanese pop song was used as a model, with her body and facial movements being mapped onto the robot  so it would move in a realistic manner. The technology is even able to model the singer’s breathing movements and synthesize the sounds of breathing.

Masataka Goto, who is a music technology research scientist and music software developer, as well as leader of the media interaction group at AIST, said if robots are to become widespread in society they need to first become widespread in entertainment fields so that their use will gain acceptance.

Japanese researchers have been working on many kinds of humanoid robots, including a smiling robot, and robots that could replace humans in repetitive manual labor tasks.

The Comprehensive IT and Electronics Comprehensive Exhibition (CEATEC) is an annual trade show held in Tokyo for consumer electronics and technology.

The 78-year old will travel to New York, where he will meet Don Hastings from US soap As The World Turns, the man who will be giving up the title.

Viewers first saw Bill appear with screen dad Frank Barlow, played by Frank Pemberton, in the first episode on December 9, 1960.

Only Don, who portrayed Bob Hughes in his CBS show since October 1960 without a break, had played the same character longer, but since As The World Turns ended in September after 13,858 episodes, the record will pass to Bill.

The proud Corrie star said: "Guinness World Records have been in touch and want to fly me over to New York for some sort of ceremony with Don Hastings."

He added he has no plans to retire. "I always say that, while I can still do it and while they still want me, retiring isn't an option.

"I've met the Queen on numerous occasions, I've been to Buckingham Palace, Downing Street and Chequers. I've played golf with top professionals and I've written two books. Those things have enriched my life."

The US housewife has defied amazing odds by giving birth to three babies with extraor-dinary dates of birth. Barbara, of Michigan, became a proud mum for the third time with the arrival of Cearra Nicole on Sunday, October 10, 2010 (10/10/10).

The odds of such an incredible achievement are more than 50 million to one. Barbara, 36, beamed: "Chloe is lucky number eight, Cameron is lucky number nine and Cearra is our lucky number 10."

Despite the neat pattern of their children's birthdays, Barbara and her husband Chad, 33, insist it was never planned that way.

Cearra arrived almost a month prematurely when Barbara developed clots in both legs and doctors decided that the baby had to be induced. And the arrival of Cameron came two weeks early last year. She said: "He wasn't a planned baby at all, he was a miracle. He was due on September 20."

Laura Hadland - World's Largest Toast Mosaic Portrait Guinness World Record 2011

Laura Hadland - World's Largest Toast Mosaic Portrait Guinness World Record 2011.

For any wife, trying to get on the right side of the mother-in-law can be a tricky and sometimes fruitless endeavour - especially if it involves trying to impress her with your cooking skills.

Laura Hadland, however, seems to have found a sure way of doing just that by creating this huge mosaic portrait of her mother-in-law - using 600 loaves of bread.

The 27-year-old museum curator roped in 40 friends to help her make the tribute, which she describes as 'a treat made with love and a sense of randomness'.

They used a battery of nine toasters to brown 9,852 slices of bread to varying degrees before arranging it to make the 32ft 8in by 42ft 3in picture.

After spending six hours painstakingly perfecting the image, Laura surprised her husband Mike's mother, Sandra Whitfield, with the unusual portrait to celebrate her 50th birthday.

The enormous picture, created in Sandra's home town of Warrington, Cheshire, was confirmed yesterday as having set a new Guinness World Record as the largest toast mosaic.

Laura said: 'It's great to have broken the record - what an awesome day. I'm thrilled my best mates come together to make our mark on history and celebrate Sandra's birthday at the same time - it's a birthday card like no other.

'As a museum curator, I spend lots of time with Roman mosaics so it was great fun to make a modern one out of my favourite food - everyone loves toast.

'It's a treat for Sandra made with much love and a sense of randomness. She's certainly not a stereotypical mother in law, she's one of my best friends and I love her.'

Mrs Whitfield, a divorced mother of two, cried with joy when she saw the unusual birthday gift. She said: 'It was certainly a massive shock. I love toast but it feels very strange seeing my face made out of it.

'I'm really overwhelmed because they have gone to so much effort. Laura really is the best daughter in law you could wish for. It's been the best birthday present ever and I'm now a world record holder.'

The toast mosaic - 128 square metres of browned and scorched bread - was officially named the world's largest at 5pm on October 17 at Warrington's Parr Hall by Guinness World Records adjudicator Claire Burgess. The previous record holder measured 121.93 square metres and was created by staff and students at a school in Eindhoven, Netherlands, in February.

Laura used Facebook to recruit volunteers for the record attempt, which was part of a social networking project - the Wildfire Experience - sponsored by mobile device manufacturer HTC. Emily Edmondson, eight, who took part along with her mother and grandmother, was one of the youngest mosaic makers.

While for the last couple of years nearly everyone has been saying that the era of architectural excess has passed, that doesn’t appear to be the case for at least one man in India. The Antilia, a 27-story tower has just recently been finished and opened in Mumbai, the new home for the world’s fourth richest man, Mukesh Ambani. The first billion-dollar home, and now the world’s largest, was designed by the Chicago-based architecture firm Perkins & Will, and features a full gym, at least one large swimming pool (though likely a few smaller ones here and there), six floors of parking, countless bedrooms, helipads (three of them), a movie theater, and well, the building is 27-stories, so you can imagine that it has most everything a regular house has, 27 times over.

Ambani, his wife and three children have moved into the building which is named Antilla, after a mythical Island. It contains a health club with a gym and dance studio, at least one studio, a ballroom, guestrooms and a range of lounges and a 50 seater cinema. There is even an elevated garden with ceiling space to accommodate small trees.

The roof has three helicopter pads and there is also underground parking for 160 cars, which will come in handy for guests at Ambani's forthcoming housewarming party.

From the top floors of the 173m high property are spectacular views of Mumbai and of the Arabian Sea.

The 53 year-old tycoon is not only the richest man in India but the fourth richest man in the world. In total there is reported to be 37,000 square metres of space, which is more than the Palace of Versailles.

To keep it running smoothly requires 600 staff.

According to Forbes magazine Ambani, who owns much of Reliance Industries, the oil, retail and biotechnologies conglomerate, is worth £18bn. He used to help run the company before falling out with his brother.

The glass, steel and tiles used to make the building are reported to be from local sources.
Ambani does not appear to be influenced by calls by the Indian prime minister, Manmohan Singh, for business leaders to be "role models of moderation".

Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel - World Tallest Statue coming up in Gujarat India

While the United States had been gifted the Statue of Liberty by France to commemorate the 200th year of its founding, Gujarat will go one up on the French by gifting a mammoth Statue of Unity to the country.
Chief minister Narendra Modi announced the creation of a 182 m tall statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, which will be the world's tallest statue.

The statue will be called Statue of Unity and will be placed at Sadhu Bet, an island located 3 km away from the Sardar Sarovar Dam in the riverbed of Narmada. Incidentally, the Statue of Liberty is 93 m tall.
The CM made this announcement on the eve of the beginning its his 10th year as the Gujarat chief minister. He referred to this ambitious structure as yet another gift to the country after projects like the Mahatma Mandir convention hall at Gandhinagar and memorial of Shyamji Krushna Varma at Mandvi, Kachchh.
Talking to the media at GLS auditorium, Law Garden at a press conference organized by the state Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday, the CM explained the concept of the monument. He said every society has a history and great men who inspire new generations. Now, in the tradition of immortalizing the great men of Gujarat like Mahatma Mandir at Gandhinagar and the memorial of Shyamji Krushna Varma at Mandvi, Kachchh, "we will be building the Statue of Unity - the tallest memorial of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel in the world."
Explaining the details of the statue, Modi said, "It will be having almost double the height than the Statue of Liberty in the USA and five times taller than the statue of Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It will be a unique memorial which will have a museum depicting the life of Sardar Patel, research centre for subjects like good governance and agriculture technology, which were close to Sardar's heart."
The project will be developed with public participation through a registered society or trust under the chairmanship of the chief minister. "As the memorial will be the tallest in the world, we will be consulting and inviting experts from across the globe.
We will also be developing a dedicated website for the project, where everybody can make their suggestions for the rare project. Once the various technical studies like geographical survey and environmental study, project plan will be prepared. Once finished with these minutiae, it would be possible to complete the monument in 3 years. Presently, various experts and agencies are being searched."
The monument will have a lift and visitors can go to the top of the structure and have a panoramic view from Sardar Patel's eye.
According to Modi, the memorial will be a new chapter in the development of the tribal belt in the state, as it will open employment opportunities for the local tribal youth and boost tourism in the state.

World's largest brandy truffle set Guinness World Records 2011

Even the most fervent chocoholic would have trouble tackling this beast - the world's largest brandy truffle ever created.

The creators of the truffle are celebrating after their chocolate masterpiece, smashing the previous world record by almost 60kg.

Owner of The Queen's Head Inn, in Bromsgrove, Worcs, Gianni D'Aniello and head chef Chris Long spent five and a half hours constructing the truffle from a traditional recipe of chocolate, brandy, double cream and cocoa powder.

The truffle, in accordance with the official guidelines, was created in the correct proportions and prepared in the same way as a normal size truffle with a ganache centre before being coated in cocoa powder.

Evidence of the attempt, to mark the start of National Chocolate Week, will now be submitted to the Guinness World Records so it can be formally verified as an official record-breaker.

The previous holder of the record was a comparatively measly 196.3kg.

The ingredients were all donated by local businesses and the truffle will now be broken up into into smaller truffles and sold to raise money for Birmingham Children's Hospital Heart Appeal.

Gianni, 41, said: 'Chris is exceptionally skilled at making things with chocolate so with it being National Chocolate Week we decided to try and break a record.

'It was certainly quite a challenge though. We had to make the ganache the night before and cross our fingers in the hope that it would set in time as Guinness set very strict timeframes on these things.

'Then it was just a case of assembling it, which took quite a few hours. There was one point when we thought we had bitten off more than we could chew, but then we rolled up our sleeves and got stuck in to it.

'We are hoping to make about 2,000 smaller truffles out of it which should raise about £7,000 for the hospital. Hopefully a truffle or two should really sweeten the deal for them.'

Louise McCathie, spokesperson for the hospital, said: 'I am delighted Gianni and Chris broke the record.

Vittoriosa residents lit their way into the Guinness Book of Records on Saturday, when “well over” 10,000 candles created a magical atmosphere in the historic maritime city to break the record for illuminations by candlelight.

“We’ve made it,” mayor John Boxall exclaimed yesterday, after receiving confirmation from Guinness Book of Records officials, who were roaming the city’s streets on Saturday to gauge the number of flickering lights.

Vittoriosa residents lit up their narrow winding streets, homes, squares and bastions using thousands of candles, as well as fjakkoli, giving an enchanting aura to the centuries-old city.

The exact number of candles has not been confirmed as the officials were still scrutinising information, but according to the mayor, the total was substantially over the 10,000 needed.

The three-day dockyard town festival was a big success, according to the mayor, “even though the elements were against us”.

Although the weekend downpours affected attendance, hundreds of people still turned up. It was also a logistical nightmare for the organisers, who had to take out their torches and candles at the last minute to avoid them getting wet.

The fifth edition of the festival was organised by the Vittoriosa local council and featured numerous activities with historic re-enactments, exhibitions, music, food and drink and of course the unique candle-lit atmosphere.

Bondi local Marcus Bottay, 44, recently broke the Guinness World Record for the five metre rope climb - an extreme body weight strength test measured by how many times you can climb up and down a five metre cord using only your hands.

In September, the personal trainer climbed 27.8 metres in 60 seconds, smashing the previous record of 19.2 metres.

The dad of two trains for two hours, three times a week, to stay in shape.

"Rope climbing is one of those sports where your finger tips have to be as strong as your forearms," Mr Bottay said.

"My daughters Jasmine and Willow helped me train for the world record. They would hop on my shoulders as I did thousands of chin ups, push ups and sit ups."
