World's Largest Macaroni And Cheese Guinness World Record 2011 - Chef John Folse & Company

World's Largest Macaroni And Cheese set Guinness World Record by Chef  John Folse & Company.

There was never a doubt they would achieve their goal as Chef John Folse & Company and Cabot Creamery Cooperative set out on the morning of Thursday, September 23 to establish a new Guinness World Record for the world's largest Mac and Cheese. The result was a 2,469 pound serving of Mac & Cheese that shattered the existing Guinness world record of 414 pounds, using Cabot's award-winning cheddar cheese. More important than the Guinness record was the reason behind the event -- raising money for New Orleans Area Habitat For Humanity (NOAHH) while supporting the critical work of The Magnolia School and Second Harvest Food Bank of Greater New Orleans. In the last six months, through this and other activities, Cabot has helped raise more than $21,000 for the New Orleans Area Habitat for Humanity.

"We chose to partner with New Orleans nonprofits to celebrate all of the powerful work these organizations have contributed to the city," said Roberta MacDonald, Senior Vice President of Marketing for Cabot Creamery Cooperative. "We hope our involvement will assist these organizations in their future efforts towards positive change."

More than 2,000 people attended the event that took place from 12 Noon to 2 p.m. on Harrah's Fulton Square in downtown New Orleans.  Guests who donated $5 or more were given colorfully painted ceramic bowls good for "all you can eat" servings of the Mac & Cheese.  So successful was the event that all 1,500 of the hand-made bowls created by participants of The Magnolia School, a nonprofit organization based just outside New Orleans that provides assistance to adults with intellectual or developmental disabilities, sold out in less than two hours.  Adding to the excitement and drama of the event was the fact that the record-setting creation was cooked in a massive 213 year-old cast iron sugar kettle that had to be gently lifted into the air by forklift to determine its record setting weight -- not an easy feat considering the age and fragility of the circa 1797 kettle.

As the current cheese fondue Guinness World Record holder, Chef Folse relied on 30 years of enormous-cooking experience as he blended Cabot Creamery's famous cheddar cheese and butter, Brown's Dairy's 1,100 pounds of milk and King Arthur Flour with elbow macaroni and breadcrumbs. Guinness World Records judge Amanda Mochan was on-site to verify the world record as the kettle was raised and lowered with equipment and expertise generously provided by Deep South Equipment, Lift-All and Michelli Scales.

While Cabot Creamery and Chef Folse worked hard to break the record, the achievement of this dish extends well beyond executing a traditional southern comfort recipe; the meal and the event's true success will be measured through the long-term success of NOAHH, The Magnolia School and Second Harvest Food Bank of Greater New Orleans.
In conjunction with the Cabot Road Show, Rouses Supermarkets generously put signage in every one of their 36 locations throughout Louisiana and Mississippi, in addition to pre-selling tickets for the hand-made macaroni and cheese bowls.

Proceeds from all sales at the event will contribute to the New Orleans Area Habitat for Humanity's housing efforts. In the past year, the New Orleans Area Habitat for Humanity has sheltered 93 new families with homes.

Dozens of local celebrities, public officials and sponsors served guests the ceramic bowls filled with the warm-and-creamy pasta while dozens more volunteers helped check guests in, serve ice cream compliments of Brown's Dairy and collect donations for soft drinks and water from NOAHH, clean tables and pass out literature for the non-profit organizations.  Among those volunteers were New Orleans City Council President Arnie Fielkow, members of The Big Easy Roller Girls squad, Second Harvest Chef Tony Biggs, New Orleans Hornet's Dance Team girls and Hornet Mascot Hugo and Lisa Ferris, CFO of NOAHH.

Entertainment was provided by former New Orleans Jazz artist Samirah Evans, who was displaced by Hurricane Katrina five years ago and moved to Brattleboro, Vermont.  Evans returned to New Orleans to reunite with local musicians for this monumental event.

The National Association of Housing Cooperatives (NAHC) proudly showed their support for sister Cooperative Cabot Creamery and New Orleans Area Habitat For Humanity as nearly 300 NAHC members descended upon Fulton Square to purchase lunch in support of NOAHH.

While most of the record-setting Mac & Cheese was consumed at the event, not all of it was used but NONE of it went to waste as approximately 600 pounds of leftovers were given to Second Harvest Food Bank of Greater New Orleans.

Lance Naik Mian Yousaf Jamil a resident of Wazirabad who is commissioned in the Pakistan Army, broke the record of Canadian citizen Ken Chaplin, who holds the previous record for planting 15,170 plants in 24 hours in 2001.

Minister for Environment Hameedullah Jan Afridi and Corps Commander Mangla Ghulam Mustafa congratulated Jamil over his feat. They travelled to Lori village near Gujranawala and awarded special prize to the world record holder.

In July 2009, Pakistan received a certificate from the Guinness Book of World Records in acknowledgment of planting as many as 541,176 mangroves trees in a day on 800 acres of land at Keti Bunder, District Thatta.

Plant a tree, win a prize

The government announced awards for planting maximum trees by organizations and individuals during the Monsoon Tree Plantation season which kicked off on August 10.

The Ministry of Environment also set the target to plant 45.5million trees during the monsoon campaign, one of the launched every year to enhance forest cover to the extent agreed to meet Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).

Australian Women fastest relay race in High Heels set World Record 2010

Australian Women fastest relay race in High Heels set World Record 2010.

In just over one minute and four seconds, four glamorous girls from Canberra have set a new world record for the fastest relay race in stiletto heels.

But let's face it. They were a shoe-in from the start of the race - with all of them being Australian Institute of Sport students. Organisers say the event attracted more than 100 competitors.

The leggy quartet - Brittney McGlone, Laura Juliff, Casey Hodges and Jessica Penny - smashed the competition at the Venus Embrace Closest Stiletto Race in blazing spring sunshine at Sydney's Circular Quay on Tuesday in the shadow of the Opera House.

McGlone romped home first in this event in 2008.

The Pinkettes, as they are collectively known, now plan to head to Phuket, Thailand, and use their $10,000 prize for a well-earned holiday.

McGlone, a hurdling champion, said before the race that the secret to running in heels was to get up on your toes.

"Don't tell the other girls that!" she whispered to AAP before the race. But that doesn't mean it was easy for everyone.Just ask Darren Kelly, the only bloke brave enough to have a go.

After strapping on a pair of size eight heels, with regulation 7.5cm heels, he wobbled down the 80-metre course.

"It's done for a good cause, to find a cure for cancer," he gasped to AAP afterwards.

Keeping the racers on the move was chief scrutineer and former Miss Australia Erin McNaught, whose job was to check all heels measured at least 7.5cm and that everyone's legs were smooth.

"Because they're going for a world record attempt there's certain conditions which have to be met," she told AAP.

But she turned a blind eye for Mr Kelly on the smooth legs measure.

The Pinkettes were presented with a certificate by record keeper Guinness confirming they had set the world record for the fastest stiletto relay race.

A cheque for $20,000 was presented to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, $1000 of which was raised on the day.

World's biggest watermelon - Largest watermelon in the World

Janet and Chris Kent from Sevier County now have the World's Biggest Watermelon weighing in at 291 pounds.

The two won the title at a festival in North Carolina after beating the previous record of 268 pounds held by a farmer in Arkansas. According to the Kents the melon is a "Carolina Cross", which is the only kind that will grow more than 200 pounds.

They said the hot weather this summer helped to push their melon over the top. "This year, it's hot...and unbearably hot as it is this year, it was really good for watermelons because watermelons love the heat, and mother nature provided us with abundant heat and abundant sunshine and the plant takes all that sunshine, converts it in to sugar and puts it in to the melons and gives us a super crop of really big watermelons," said Chris.

The Kents have several more watermelon in their large garden they hope they can help defend their title.

Lata Mangeshkar turns 81 - Guinness Record Holder most number of Song recordings in the world

Bollywood playback legend Lata Mangeshkar turns 81 Tuesday, with fans swearing by her golden voice even as she has chosen to cut down on assignments after singing for over 1,000 Hindi movies.

Starting her career in 1942, she reigned over the film industry for decades and is still the first preference of many filmmakers like Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Madhur Bhandarkar and an inspiration to established singers of today.
Lata Mangeshkar photo, Lata Mangeshkar picture, Lata Mangeshkar Guinness World Record 2011, Lata Mangeshkar 81 birthday, most number of Song recordings in the worldLata, who was born Sep 28, 1929, also featured in the Guinness World Records book from 1974 to 1991 for having made the most number of Song recordings in the world. She was last heard in Bhandarkar’s ‘Jail’.

‘Lataji’s birthday is a great event. She has given us so much in terms of music, love and affection. I just hope that she lives on forever and gives her blessings to us. I am very close to her and I am happy, proud and fortunate that she is close to me,’ said filmmaker Yash Chopra who has vowed only to work with her among the female singers in the industry.

‘Jab bhi ji chahe’ (Daag); ‘Kabhi kabhie mere dil mein’ (‘Kabhi Kabhie’); ‘Neela asman so gaya’ (‘Silsila’); Meri bindiya teri nindiya (‘Lamhe’); ‘Dholna’ (‘Dil To Pagal Hai’) and ‘Tere Liye’ (‘Veer Zaara’) are some of Lata’s hit numbers for Chopra.

Bhansali is in fact composing an album as a tribute to her.

‘I know every nuance in her voice. She is a miracle of nature. And there’s so much in her throat that is still untapped. I first thought I’d create just one song for her in ‘Guzaarish’. Then I thought, why one song when a whole ethos, era after era of supreme excellence is embodied in that voice?’ Bhansali told IANS.

‘Lataji is far more than a singer. She mirrors all the beauty of the soul. It is that beauty that I want to capture in my songs,’ he added.

Not just this, Bhansali’s forthcoming film ‘Guzaarish’ is also inspired by one of Lata’s imperishable melodies, ‘Hai tere saath meri wafaa mein nahin to kya’, composed by Madan Mohan and written by Kaifi Azmi for the film ‘Hindustan Ki Kasam’.

Starting her career in 1942 with songs in Marathi, Lata’s first Hindi song was ‘Paa lagoon kar jori’ for Vasant Joglekar’s movie ‘Aap Ki Seva Mein’ in 1946. Two years later, composer Ghulam Haider gave Lata her first major break with the song ‘Dil mera toda’ in ‘Majboor’ and after that there was no looking back for the nightingale of India, as she is fondly called.

She has worked with all the major composers of the bygone era and mesmerised the current lot too.

Lata has recorded songs for over 1,000 Bollywood movies and sung in more than 36 regional Indian languages. She is the second vocalist ever to have received the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian honour.

Lilting melodies like ‘Aayega aanewala’ from ‘Mahal’, ‘Aaja re pardesi’ from ‘Madhumati’, ‘Pyar kiya to darna kya’ from ‘Mughal-e-Azam’ and ‘Satyam shivam sundaram’ from the film of the same name still find a place on the favourite list of music lovers.

She has sung all kinds of songs in her long career, including romantic numbers like ‘Tumhen yaad karte karte’, ‘Ajeeb daastan hai yeh’, and naughty ones like ‘Main kamsin hoon’, ‘Bahon mein chale aao’, ‘Bangle ke peeche’ and ‘Choti si umar main’ as well as devotional songs like ‘Paoji maine Ram ratan dhan pao’ and ‘O palan hare’.

Even singers are still in awe of the great singer who is also the elder sister of singer Asha Bhosle.

‘I can’t express in words what she means to me and how I feel for her. Just want to wish her a happy and healthy life ahead,’ Sunidhi Chauhan told IANS.

Playback singer Sonu Niigaam added: ‘I want to wish a very happy birthday to Lataji. Many many best wishes to her. I would just like to tell her that keep enlightening India and world with your songs and bless me.’

The UAE Red Crescent and Kraft Foods are getting ready to make the world’s longest sandwich and enter it in the Guinness Book of World Records replacing the current title-holder sandwich of 2,000 metres long. The sandwich will be created on October 7.

“The longest sandwich in the world will use more than half a ton of cream cheese and 10,000 bread nuggets, 625 kgs of tomatoes, 250 kgs of cucumber and olive. Over 100 employees of Kraft Foods will work for more than four hours to make 10,000 sandwiches, which will encircle the Outlet Mall,” sources aware of the preparations told Emirates 24|7.

While it takes four hours to make 10,000 sandwiches, it will take another five hours for workers in select labour camps to eat the cream cheese sandwiches. The UAE Red Crescent has already identified the labour camps where the record making sandwiches will be distributed.

Kraft Foods and UAE Red Crescent will attempt to create history on October 7, at the Outlet Mall between 12-2 pm. As per the Guinness Book of World Records, the biggest sandwich ever made in the world weighed 3,178 kgs.
According to the Guinness Book of Records, the largest sandwitch was made in March 2005 by Wild Woodys Chill and Grill, in Michigan USA.

The Lung Association, Brockville, Canada made an omelet that weighed 2.95 tonnes at the Brockville Memorial Centre, Ontario, Canada on May 11, 2002.

The longest line of pizzas measured 476.7m and was achieved by Tamburino Restaurant (UK) at the Quedam Shopping Centre, Yeovil, UK, on 29 June 2008. The line consisted of 2,129 pizzas. The record attempt started at 6am and it took 10 hours to complete. All the pizzas were made from scratch including mixing the dough, making the bases and adding the toppings.

Using 1,000kg of ostrich meat and 700kg of chicken, a team of chefs in Iran created a 1,500m ostrich sandwich-setting the world record for the longest ostrich sandwich. Displayed at the International Food and Health Festival in Tehran, the 1,000 kgs mega meal took about five tonnes of different ingredients, including chicken meat and sauce as well as ostrich. More than 1,000 cooks laboured from early morning in Tehran's Mellat Park to assemble the meat monster and it took two days to prepare the 1.4 tons of ostrich meat, chicken, mayonnaise, mushrooms, onions, garlic, spices and bread to make the 1.5km sandwich, which was eaten in minutes.

UAE aims to surpass all these records to become the reigning Sandwich King until someone else challenges the position.

World’s Smallest Animation - World's Smallest Stop Motion Animated Film Guinness Record by Nokia N8

World's Smallest Stop Motion Animated Film Guinness World Record by Nokia N8

The Nokia N8 has been used in the making of the world’s smallest stop motion character animation. Certified by the Book of Guinness World Records, the animation was created by Aardman Animation. In an ambitious project, they combined the might of the Nokia N8's image capture ability with the concept behind Professor Fletcher’s invention of the CellScope.
World’s Smallest Animation photo, nokia n8 Smallest Animation picture, World's Smallest Stop Motion Animated Film video, Nokia N8 Guinness world Record 2011, Animated Film World Record 2011, World’s Smallest Animation video

Shooting only four seconds of footage per day, the team worked to produce the movie. Rather than create a model for the lead character which could be manipulated, the team instead created 50 versions of “Dot,” as she is named. Each Dot model started life as a sketch on paper which was then turned into a 3D render before being printed on a 3D printer. The models were then attached to a metal rod before being painted – the artist involved in painting basically couldn’t speak or breath as he applied his brushstrokes to the 9mm high models of Dot.

Fletcher’s invention of the Cellscope enables doctors in remote places to take pictures of blood samples with a mobile phone camera before sending them off for analysis. It is currently being tested in Uganda and has proven successful at helping to detect Malaria. Whilst the concept worked for Aardman, they had to come up with their own
variant in order to get the required depth of field for the images. With a few thousand frames shot on the N8's 12-megapixel camera, these were then stitched together to create the finished movie.

James Field - Bungee Jump Guinness World Record in London

James Field broke the world record of 19 jumps in one hour by performing a staggering 42 jumps in the allotted sixty minutes. Field completed the record yesterday in London close to Tower Bridge.

Health and safety was the number one priority for the world record attempt. After each and every jump the bungee rope was replaced with a new one and there were several assistants that checked and double checked all the equipment.

Field said that he felt a little bit dizzy after completing the new record. This is no surprise as he jumped from a platform 50 meters from the ground. He said that he had to concentrate his mind on the task as he threw himself of the platform, the task was made more challenging due to the windy weather.

He then went on to say that it was harder then he had expected and it required him to get into a rhythm and control his breathing. He also said that he thought that he had done his quota of jumps for the remainder of the year. So don’t expect to see him throwing himself from any other tall structures for some time to come.

The kidney was removed off the body since it was nonfunctional.

After the operation, Dr. Abdul Rashid sent the details of the operation as well as the weight of the kidney to the Guinness Book of World Records on March 16th, since the doctor has never seen such a large kidney, neither in his clinical practice nor has ever read about it in any book.

It took eight months by the Guinness World Record to confirm the entry of the surgery in the book and sent a recognition certificate to Dr. Abdul Rashid and his colleagues.

World's oldest twins set Guiness World Record by Raymonde and Lucienne

The world's oldest twins, a pair of French sisters who turned 98 on Thursday, put their longevity down to joie de vivre, or quite simply enjoying life.

Raymonde and Lucienne Wattelade, who are officially recognised as the world's oldest twins by the Guinness World Records, said the other secret to long life was regular sport.

Both were in the French gymnastics team in the 1930s and continue to dance waltzes as the local casino in Saint-Georges-de-Didonne, south-western France.

The pair, in perfect health, have lived together in a family home for the past five years and are partial to tarot card reading and their favourite tipples: pastis for Raymonde and whisky for Lucienne.

Born on 23 September 1912, the twins have been married a total of four times, have between them four children, seven grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Raymonde worked for the French nuclear energy commission and Lucienne was a housewife.

They said their most painful memory was seeing their father leave for the First World War and their mother in tears.

But they have no regrets.

"We live in the present, it's pointless thinking about the past or the future - we're still 20 (in our heads)," said Lucienne, who is ten minutes younger than her sister.

Above all, laughter was the key to a good life, she added. "If you don't laugh, you don't live."

World's Most Popular Toys - Transformers Robots set World Record 2010

World's Most Popular Toys - Transformers Robots set World Record 2010.
The Transformers robots have remained one of Britain’s most popular toys over the past 25 years despite a dramatic change in children’s tastes, retailers have disclosed.

The chain, born in September 1985, has marked its anniversary by releasing details of the nation's favourite toys from their top selling gadgets and games.
World's Most Popular Toys photo, Transformers Robots picture, World's Most selling Toys, Britain Most Popular Toys 2010, World's biggest selling Toys, Most Popular Toys in the world
According to company figures, Toys R Us has sold more than 2.5 billion toys to 300 million customers at the chain’s 75 stores across Britain.

But despite children’s playtime habits have changed over the past 25 years, it seems youngsters still appreciate the wars between the Autobots and the Decepticons.

Experts said the 2007 Hollywood film, starring Megan Fox and Josh Duhamel, helped keep the toys in the bestseller range.

“While technology is now more popular than ever before with children, customers who have been with us for the full 25 years will start to recognise some toys which are making a comeback,” said Mike Coogan, the chain’s marketing director.

"Back in the eighties all the kids wanted to own the Transformers robots, and while they died out during the nineties they are hugely popular once again due to the 2007 movie which was based on the original series.”

The toy giant said it had witnessed a dramatic shift in tastes. Two decades ago children were nagging their parents for football stickers, Sylvanian Families and Transformers Robots.

But in recent years some of the biggest sellers have been high-tech toys such as Nintendo Wii, PlayStation 3 and XBox 360.

What has also remained consistent is the impact and influence of television programmes and movies, Mr Coogan said.

“We are… seeing huge demand for soft toys and characters from popular TV shows - even more adult shows such as Who Wants To Be a Millionaire influences the games parents are buying for their children,” he said.
It all began with Transformers, Robots in Disguise and Optimus Prime in 1985. The vehicles that switched from vehicle to robot and back again were in huge demand at Christmas.

Since then Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles (1990) and GameBoy (1991) Power Rangers (1194) and POGS (1995) have all had their 15 minutes of fame.
Bob The Builder, Bratz and BeyBlades are also names which will ring bells with mums and dads up and down Britain.

In 2008 High School Musical Dance Mats were hugely popular. The following year Go Go Pet Hamsters were the must-have.

Other movies and TV merchandise loved by kids over the years includes In the Night Garden, High School Musical , Batman and Ghost busters.

Most recently Toy Story 3 launched in UK cinemas and insiders speculate sales for the movie's merchandise will be massive this Christmas

Officially verified by Guinness World Records on 15 September, the T-shirt is currently on display in a hangar at the Denel Aviation Centre near OR Tambo Airport in Johannesburg.

A staggering 2 782 square metres on one side, the T-shirt covers the same area as 10 tennis courts and is big enough for 16 692 people to stand on.

Made from more than 7 000 running metres of fabric and home to some 6 500 000 stitches, the hot pink T-shirt took a team of tailors and seamstresses three weeks of working round the clock to sew together.

The gigantic undertaking was the brainchild of Vanish, which tasked Sound Contact, a below the line activations agency, with the responsibility of bringing its vision to life of making of the world’s biggest T-shirt. The actual manufacturing of the T-shirt was managed by National Flag and Branding.

After making the T-shirt, Vanish decided to put its reputation as the best fabric stain remover to the test by allowing a group of exuberant school learners to stain the gargantuan garment. The shirt was soaked in a Vanish solution and the enormous stain disappeared in front of onlookers.

Twice as long as the blue whale (the largest creature on earth), South Africa can be rightly proud of the imposing T-shirt, which dwarfs previous record holders and is a billowy 10 percent larger than its nearest rival.

“Vanish wanted to do something great for South Africa; create excitement and build on the sense of optimism created by the World Cup. Owning the world’s biggest T-shirt is a record for South Africans, made by South Africans. From the people involved, to the material and thread used, this is a 100% home-grown initiative,” says Jiri Kulik, GM for Reckitt Benckiser SA.

The enormous garment - which weighs 1 500 kilograms and has the capacity to park 647 Classic Mini Cooper cars - joins other South African world records set during 2010, including the most successful World Cup soccer tournament ever, the largest trumpet (vuvuzela) and biggest soccer ball.

This small dog has a tongue that is over 4 1/2 inches long and can be seen hanging out on walks, at the park and even sitting in the car. Apparently Puggy doesn't have a problem with the tongue hanging out and never did because it is what made him special.

This cute little fur ball definitely can lay his claim as having the longest tongue while still enjoying everything in life. Doesn't four plus inches sounds really long? Take a look at the video. When you see this tongue it looks much longer than that!

At 9:30 a.m., a giant king cake baby slowly rose to the plaza level of the Superdome, getting higher and higher as the truck from the local float-making factory drove up the ramp from street level.

"Where do you want Blaine Kern's king cake baby to go?" someone asked Dave Haydel Jr., who had already been up all night.

"That's something you would only hear in New Orleans, " said Mary Beth Romig, director of public relations and special projects for New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu.

Romig was one of many people on site as Haydel's Bakery prepared to break the world record for largest king cake. And there it was: Two rings of wide, braided king cake covered in white icing and black and gold sprinkles circling the Superdome, supported by 500, 6-foot skirted tables. The giant baby was situated between the stage and the VIP tent.

Dave Haydel Jr. was busy weighing pieces of unused and leftover king cake on a scale that had been certified and notarized for the occasion. At his side, Amanda Mochan, a representative from Guinness World Records, made careful notes of each measurement.

As for the leftover cake, "We thought about making the world's largest bread pudding, but one record a day is enough, " Haydel said.

Then he started weighing buckets of the remaining icing.

One record a day is plenty, actually. It took five months of planning to encircle the Superdome with king cake and smash the record for the world's largest king cake.

Many New Orleanians on hand for the event seemed shocked -- and some actually booed -- upon learning that a king cake world record had already been set in 2001 by a 3,007-pound cake from Fiesta Mart in Houston, Mochan said.

By noon, the plaza level was thronged. The crowd wore black and gold; nurse and doctor coats from the hospitals nearby; nice work clothes from businesses along Poydras. School bus loads of kids walked around with their chaperones. Lots of people pushed baby carriages.

It was a party atmosphere, but with a serious purpose. As people lined up to buy slices of king cake, members of the Saintsations handed out pink stickers for the beneficiary, Susan G. Komen for the Cure New Orleans.

A member of the Haydel family died of breast cancer recently. And in the VIP tent, Lois Culver had a color poster with a photo of her twin sister, Linda Hingle, who was head cashier at Haydel's. Culver died of breast cancer on April 27, 2009.

The idea for a giant king cake around the Superdome has been in the bakers' minds at least a couple of decades. It originated "a long time ago. I don't know what to think. I'm exhausted, " said David Haydel Sr., who ringed a school gymnasium with king cake when his sons were small. "We've been up since 5 (Tuesday) morning."

Ryan Haydel, son of David Sr. and brother of Dave, never forgot the remark his dad made after the school cake: "The next one is going to be at the Superdome."

Last Carnival season, after the Saints won the Super Bowl, brothers Dave and Ryan were scaling dough for the thousands of king cakes the Harahan bakery sells every year. At the time he mentioned the idea to his brother, "I was delirious, " Ryan said.

They signed a sponsorship deal making them the Official Bakery of the New Orleans Saints and started making calls. Their suppliers donated 4,000 pounds of Danish flour, 286 pounds of yeast, about 428 dozen eggs, 299 pounds of cinnamon sugar and 331 pounds of black and gold sprinkles. All the boxes and printing were donated. Their flour supplier flew in four bakery technicians for the occasion. Dave Haydel Jr. said the biggest financial outlay was rental of 500 tables.

Haydel's started baking and freezing two-foot-long sections of king cake three days before the event . United Parcel Service trucked the cakes from the bakery to the Dome, and were so organized they had everything there early, by 10:30 p.m. Tuesday, Ryan Haydel said.

"Our forklift driver didn't come on until midnight, so we put (the cakes) in the golf carts, " he said as he drove a reporter around the perimeter of the Superdome to view the cake in its entirety. "We got a two-hour jump on it, thank goodness."

Volunteers from UPS worked through the night with 15 members of the bakery crew to assemble the cake. Ice House Catering, which does a lot of crawfish boils, heated cake frosting in their boiling pots.

Guinness' Mochan walked a measuring wheel -- twice -- around the Dome to get the exact size of the cake.

"It's two separate records, because they're two separate cakes, " she said. "The smaller one inside will be one record, and the second one will break that record."

Mochan said most of the world records she has verified have been mass-participation events, such as the largest gathering of Santa's elves and the largest number of people doing the hokey pokey.

"We did the largest number of people doing the twist with Chubby Checker, in July in California, " Mochan said. More than 1,600 people danced.

She hasn't verified food events before, but gets to do two in two days in New Orleans. Thursday, the record World's Largest Macaroni and Cheese will be attempted by Cabot Cheese and chef John Folse at Fulton Square. The Magnolia School made handmade bowls, and for $5, attendees can buy a bowl of the mac and cheese.

Slices of king cake were $7, or $12 with a baby, which was not a real baby but a paper chance on one of 100 prizes donated for the occasion, including a "Big Daddy" Saints recliner. The grand prize, a new Chevy Silverado truck, was parked on the plaza.

By noon, people were taking photos with the giant king cake baby. Cartons of chocolate Brown's Dairy milk (Official Milk of the New Orleans Saints), Kentwood Springs water and PJ's Coffee were given away.

John Rhodes, 3, and Larry Rodriguez, 2, were wearing matching white Reggie Bush jerseys.

"I do Miss Dottie Haydel's hair, " Larissa Rodrigue said. "She told me they were going to do this. I wasn't sure how it was going to come out. It's wonderful. It looks great."

"And it smells good!" said Bermel Doyle, who was with Rodrigue and the boys.

In a group of five women from a law office across the street, Laci Jones, who was wearing a maternity dress, said she came out "to eat a sliver of history, and to tell my kid she ate some, too. And to win a truck."

Mother and daughter Frances Webb and Carrie Webb were carrying a shopping bag as well as several boxes of king cake.

They were in attendance "because of Haydel's king cake and to get Saints stuff, " Frances said.

"And because of breast cancer, Mom, " said Carrie, whose mother said yes, of course.

"I bought four tickets online and printed them out, then couldn't find them" at her home in Algiers, Frances said. "I bought four more here. And we went to the Saints store and went shopping, so I'm $100 poorer, but it's Christmas presents. ... This whole thing is a blessing."

Soon after noon, Dave Haydel Jr. got on stage. With him were Supriya Jindal, Cheryl Landrieu and Saints owner Rita Benson LeBlanc. Jindal told the crowd that Louisiana ranks highest in mortality in breast cancer. She ended her remarks by saying, "My children told me to pass on two words: Two Dat."

After the king cake was blessed by the Rev. Msgr. Frank J. Giroir of St. Anselm Catholic Church in Madisonville, Mochan announced the winning dimensions of the cakes: 4,068 pounds and 8.99 ounces, and 4,073 pounds and 7.12 ounces.

"Congratulations, and welcome to the Guinness World Record family, " she said.

People often ask Mochan what's the craziest or most fun world record event she's attended.

"I would say I really like this event, " she said. "Everything ties together, and it's so fun with the city. King cake is traditional in New Orleans. It ties in with the Saints and the Superdome. And it benefits a good cause.

The 2011 edition of the Guinness Book of World Records is the first edition that recognizes Walter’s accomplishment, and I’m so pleased to personally present him with a copy today.”

According to Market Watch, The Guinness Book of World Records has celebrated 72 women who have reached the age of 114. Breuning is only the 6th male to reach 114.

Mazda MX-5 - Longest Mazda MX-5 cars parade set Guinness world record 2010

The Guinness Book of World Records officially recognized the recent gathering of over 400 units of Mazda MX-5 in Germany as the “longest continuous MX-5 parade of all time.”

“The excitement leading up to this event was amazing,” said Jeff Guyton, president and chief executive of Mazda Motor Europe. “Over 600 MX-5 owners applied to take part; so many that we didn’t have room for them all because of technical reasons. The event, the parade, the many visitors--Mazda MX-5 showed today why it’s still one of the best-loved sports cars on the planet.”

A total of 459 units of the MX-5 made it during the event at the UNESCO Zollverein World Heritage site in Essen, Germany on September 18.

MX-5s from 17 countries took part in breaking the world record with the biggest number of participants coming from Germany. A handful of special awards were given out to some of the participating cars. An MX-5 from Moscow was recognized as having traveled the farthest distance at 2,800 kilometers while a 21-year old first-generation model from Prague was recognized as the oldest. An MX-5 with the highest recorded mileage of 344,624 kilometers came from Switzerland.

The 459 MX-5s is nearly double of the former world record of 249 vehicles set in New Zealand in October 2005.

The recent gathering also generated funds for the SOS Children’s Villages as the last seats to join the MX-5 world record parade were auctioned on eBay. The auction raised €1,300, which Mazda Germany hiked to €3,000 for the SOS Children’s Villages.

Nicolas Luisetti and John Paul Olhaberry staged the event in Chile's capital Santiago to mark the country's 200th anniversary.

The magic twins stunned thousands of passers-by as they floated above the city's streets.
Their only visible support was a post which each had one hand placed on.

The feat, which involved the pair levitating seven metres above the ground, was broadcast on a giant screen as traffic was brought to standstill.

The crowd gathered below suggested a number of different explanations for how the twins may have carried out the stunt, including having some sort of iron bar through their clothing and attached to the pole.

The twins are already considered the most famous illusionists in the country.

The pair have made numerous television appearances in the past and are set to carry out further high-profile events to mark the country's anniversary.

Their stunts are similar to those carried out by U.S magician David Blane who became famous for his extraordinary levitation trick.

Nation-wide celebrations for Chile's bicentenary are set to take place on September 18.

He has spent the last 17 years as an unpaid carer and gives away his produce to the elderly.

Listerine - Most People Using Mouthwash Simultaneously set Guinness World Record

A total of 361 people participated in the activity, which took place in Mumbai on the occasion of World Oral Health Day on September 12.

On the occasion of World Oral Health Day on September 12, mouthwash brand Listerine conducted an on-ground activity, which called for people to set a new world record and also urged Indians to include mouthwash in their daily oral care regime.
Most People Using Mouthwash Simultaneously photo, Most People Using Listerine Mouthwash picture, Listerine Guinness World Record, World Oral Health Day, Most People Using Mouthwash In Nirmal Lifestyle mall, Mulund, Mumbai
In Nirmal Lifestyle mall, Mulund, Mumbai, 361 participants used Listerine mouthwash simultaneously for 15 seconds, setting a new Guinness World Record. The event was anchored by VJ and actor, Cyrus Sahukar, who urged the crowd to sign and take a pledge for complete oral care.

Discussing the awareness drive, Tushar Murdeshwar, head, marketing, Johnson & Johnson Consumer Division, India says, "We are committed to provide consumers with complete oral health, with our essential oil-based Listerine Mouthwash. We hope that this record will help increase awareness among consumers to include mouthwash as part of their regime."

The drive was ideated, planned and executed by Group M's Dialect. Soumik Sarkar, business director, Dialect tells afaqs! that the planning took close to two months. On September 11, a day before the event, banners were put up in the mall to attract registration for participation and pledges. The event kicked off at 4 pm on Sunday and lasted for about two hours. At the conclusion of the event, the Guinness certificate was awarded by Jack Brockbank from Guinness World Record, London, who was present as the official adjudicator.

Sarkar shares that while contacting the Guinness team would have been quite difficult about five years ago, it's not the same now. With easy Internet access, reaching them was not a task, and they were contacted in the last couple of weeks of the planning stage.

He adds, "The most challenging part was to adhere to the strict mass participation guidelines set by Guinness adjudicators, before and on the day of the event. Managing the close to 400-strong crowd was a big challenge," Sarkar adds.

Interestingly, shaving brand Gillette had organised the Mach3 Shave India Movement on similar lines. As part of the movement, 2,000 men shaved their faces in public, using the new Gillette Mach3 razor. And by participating in the Shaveathon, the men also created India's first shaving record in the Limca Book of Records, for the most number of men shaving in a day at the same place.

The activity got an entry into the Guinness Book of World Records as well; and went on to win many awards, including a Silver Lion at Cannes 2010.

On whether the Listerine event was inspired by Gillette's Shaveathon, Sarkar says, "In the case of Gillette, it was an event well woven into the brand story; whereas for Listerine, it was an off-hand, standalone sort of activity. But we're hoping to build a lot more consumer engagement for the brand." He adds, smiling, "And yes, we do hope to win some accolades for the activity going forward."

Let's wait and watch if the 'world record' magic works for Listerine as well...

“It was my fourth attempt at it,” Decker told The Province on Monday.Decker credited ideal weather conditions for his successful burn.

Burning from head to toe for three minutes and 27 seconds puts him ahead of Ted Batchelor, who is the current holder of the world record, according to Guinness, with a full-body burn for two minutes and 38 seconds.

When Decker tried to break the record a year ago, he was thwarted by swirling winds.

“They pushed fire in my face all the time,” he recalled. “I had no other choice than to burn the hell out of my face or pull the chute and do it another day.”

Decker, his partner in Fire 4 Hire, Dustin Brooks, and a number of friends pulled off their biggest stunt on Saturday afternoon in the Maple Ridge backyard of a friend.

The friend, another stuntman in the movie industry, “loves a good barbecue,” Decker joked.

He said the heat became too great toward the end of the stunt, but he never panicked.

“I knew where I needed to get to and I knew where my safeties were,” he said.

“At the end, I did the nasty plunge into the pool,” Decker said of a kiddie pool that had been filled with water.

“We had seven people on extinguishers, as well, and an exterior water source.”

The protective gel is a proprietary secret.

Decker and Brooks have performed fiery stunts in about 50 movies, TV productions and live performances since they formed Fire 4 Hire in 2005.

“The trick to the burn is that you have to continually add to the fuel you have on you because you are consuming fuel at an alarming rate,” he confided. (That way, the fire burns the fuel and not the gel.)

The gel developed by Decker and Brooks was nominated for an Oscar in 2007, but did not win the Academy Award for scientific and technical achievement.

“I couldn’t have done it without all the people that surrounded me on Saturday,” he added.
